Keith Olbermann Slams Bill Maher’s Meeting with Trump, Claims It’s All About Keeping His HBO Gig

Keith Olbermann is skeptical of Bill Maher’s recent change in perspective regarding President Donald Trump.

During Maher’s Friday episode of HBO’s Real Time, he shared his experience from a recent visit with the President, describing him as “gracious and measured,” contrary to the “person who plays a crazy person on TV.” However, Olbermann speculates that the comedian’s abrupt shift in opinion is merely a strategy to maintain his HBO show.

“By the way, don’t overanalyze Maher prostituting himself to Trump,” Olbermann expressed in a Saturday post on X (formerly Twitter). “Maher works for the same fascists at Warner who took over and corrupted CNN.”

The American journalist further criticized Maher, labeling him a “shameless opportunist with no real principles,” claiming to have known him since 1978.

During the Friday episode of Real Time, Maher stated he was “reporting exactly what happened” during his visit to the White House and added, “you decide what you think about it, and if that’s not enough pure Trump hate for you, I don’t give a fuck.”

“The guy I met is not the person who the night before the dinner tweeted a bunch of nasty crap about how he thought this was a bad idea and what a deranged asshole I was,” Maher recounted. “I read it and thought, ‘Oh, what a lovely way to welcome someone to your house.’ But when I got there, that guy wasn’t living there.”

Maher also expressed surprise while “walking through an amazing tour of the whole house,” recalling a conversation that must have been related to the 2020 election. He noted, “I know he used the word lost, and I distinctly remember saying, ‘Wow, I never thought I’d hear you say that.’ He didn’t get mad. He’s much more self-aware than he lets on in public.”
