Alec Baldwin Says He Wants to ‘Expose What Really Happened’ in Fatal Rust Shooting: ‘There’s More to Come’

Alec Baldwin hasn’t fully moved on from the Rust tragedy — in fact, he says there is more to the story that has yet to be revealed.

“We have more s— that’s gonna come out in ensuing legal filings and so forth,” the actor said on the newest episode of Fail Better with David Duchovny, a Lemonada Media podcast. “These last three years, people have just dined out.”

“In this country, when people hate you on that level, they want three things: They want you to die. They want you to go to prison,” he continued. “And the third thing is they want you canceled, which is like being in prison or being dead. Because you roam the earth and you’re invisible.”

Baldwin, 66, was holding a prop gun on the New Mexico set of the Joel Souza-directed Western in October 2021 when it accidentally went off, killing 42-year-old cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injuring Souza, 51.

The actor, who has maintained that he did not pull the trigger or know why the gun contained live ammunition, was charged with manslaughter and stood trial in July. But the judge dismissed the case against him on the third day of proceedings after learning the prosecution withheld evidence from the defense.

On the Fail Better podcast, Baldwin told David Duchovny, “There’s more to come, but the more to come is now my effort, and it’s going to be undeniably a successful effort, to raise and to expose what really happened.”

“I was counterpunching. I was on the defensive. I was being accused. I was being indicted,” he continued, also saying that “the truth of what happened has never been told.”

Since the trial, Alec said, he’s “happy about” having work come his way again, as he has seven children to support with wife Hilaria Baldwin. (He’s also dad to daughter Ireland Baldwin, 29, whom he shares with ex-wife Kim Basinger.)

“I’ve also enjoyed the fact that there’s so much of this case that is not known because we didn’t have a full trial,” the 30 Rock alum told Duchovny, 64.

Alec also said on the podcast that he “owe(s)” wife Hilaria, 40, “everything” for her support of him through his legal issues.

“She is the most spiritually ascended human being I’ve ever met, and she was kind to me and supportive of me,” he explained. “She was frustrated. She was in pain. She suffered tremendously.”

“You’re a guy, you fall in love with somebody, and you’re like, ‘What can I do to make my wife safe?’ And I couldn’t do anything to stop what was happening to me,” the actor added.

Alec and Hilaria share daughters Carmen, 11, María, 3, and Ilaria, 2, plus sons Rafael, 9, Leonardo, 8, Romeo, 6, and Eduardo, 4.
