‘All’s Fair’ Scores Season 2 Renewal at Hulu

Hulu has rendered a verdict on the Kim Kardashian-led legal drama All’s Fair, and it’s a favorable one.
The streamer has picked All’s Fair for a second season, with the renewal coming three weeks after its premiere. The series, co-created and executive produced by Ryan Murphy, has performed well for Hulu so far in the face of overwhelmingly negative reviews, with more than one calling the show the worst of the year.
Despite (or maybe in part because of?) those reviews, All’s Fair had a strong launch on Hulu, recording 3.2 million views (calculated as total viewing minutes divided by running time) worldwide in the three days following its Nov. 4 premiere. Hulu says that’s the best start for an original scripted series on the platform in three years. (Nielsen’s U.S. streaming ratings for the show’s premiere week won’t be out until early December.)
The audience response to All’s Fair has been somewhat kinder, based on ratings at the biggest review aggregators. Rotten Tomatoes has the show with a generally favorable 66 percent approval from viewers. Metacritic’s viewers have been harsher, but its user score of 2.5 out of 10 is still a little better than the review average (17 out of 100 or 1.7 out of 10).
All’s Fair stars Kardashian as Allura Grant, a high-powered divorce lawyer in Los Angeles whose firm specializes in winning big settlements for their female clients. The star-studded cast also includes Naomi Watts, Niecy Nash-Betts, Teyana Taylor, Matthew Noszka, Sarah Paulson and Glenn Close.
The show comes from 20th Television, where Murphy is based. Murphy, Jon Robin Baitz and Joe Baken created the series; they write and executive produce with Jamie Pachino, Lyn Greene and Richard Levine. Kardashian, Close, Watts, Nash-Betts and Paulson also exec produce, as do Anthony Hemingway, Kris Jenner, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson and Nissa Diederich. Murphy and Hemingway also direct.
