‘Anora’ Breakout Mark Eydelshteyn Boards ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’ at Amazon
The secret operation that is season two of Mr. & Mrs. Smith has its first confirmed casting.
Anora star Mark Eydelshteyn has joined the Prime Video series, becoming the first actor to officially join the spy series. Donald Glover and Maya Erskine starred as the title characters in season one, but when Prime Video renewed the show in May, it wasn’t clear if they would reprise their roles (and still isn’t).
Eydelshteyn will play Mr. Smith in season two; other details about the role being kept quiet for now.
Glover remains an executive producer of Mr. & Mrs. Smith along with showrunner Francesca Sloane. After the first season wrapped with a cliffhanger, Sloane told The Hollywood Reporter that she and Glover had an idea of where the show would head next: “I have been skipping to work. We laugh all day. We are having so much fun coming up with where these characters are going. I hope that it’s contagious and I hope it translates because I haven’t had this much fun making anything maybe ever.”
Season one of Mr. & Mrs. Smith earned 16 Emmy nominations, including best drama series and lead acting nods for Glover and Erskine. The series won two awards: best guest actress in a drama (Michaela Coel) and best stunt coordination for drama programming.
Eydelshteyn has acted in a number of films and TV series in his native Russia; Anora, where he stars opposite Mikey Madison, is his first U.S. film. He’s repped by Color Creative, Myman Greenspan and Sunshine Sachs.
New Regency and Amazon MGM Studios produce Mr. & Mrs. Smith, which is loosely based on the 2005 feature film of the same title that starred Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. Glover and Sloane executive produce.
