Another ‘Love Island’ Spinoff May Be in the Works at Peacock, Says ITV America Boss

A third Love Island spinoff might be in the works with ITV America and Peacock.

At Content London on Tuesday, ITV America CEO David George spoke about the hit reality series, whose format made it to CBS from the U.K. in 2018 with Love Island USA. George was a key player in the sale and highlighted the success of the existing spin-offs Love Island: All Stars and Love Island Games.

George was asked about Comcast’s plan to spin off its cable networks, splintering NBCUniversal’s linear networks into two groups. “What that separation told me is Peacock is the future because they kept Bravo, which supplies a ton of content into Peacock,” George told the audience. “And if you look at the branding, Peacock is meant to be fun and entertaining and that’s why it aligns with us so well… Actually, we are in conversations with them about a third spinoff to Love Island — and that tells you how important that brand is to the streaming service.”

The last season of Love Island USA was the most successful series to date — it was the most-watched streaming original series in the U.S. at points during the summer. George continued: “[Love Island] hasn’t been done in the marketplace before. It became such a cultural zeitgeist that it was must-watch viewing on a streaming service… And that is a really, really critical thing that’s happening in the marketplace is these streamers are now starting to turn back into linear networks.”

Peacock reps did not immediately respond to request for comment from The Hollywood Reporter.

ITV America is one of the largest producers of unscripted content in the U.S. George is responsible for all creative development, production, operations and growth opportunities across the group, including at ITV Entertainment, Leftfield Pictures, Sirens Media, Thinkfactory Media, High Noon Entertainment and Good Caper Content.
