Arcade Fire Unveils Highly Anticipated New Album After Three-Year Hiatus Alongside Fresh Single Release

Arcade Fire has revealed their first new album since frontman Win Butler faced allegations of sexual misconduct from several women in 2022. The band’s seventh album, titled Pink Elephant, is set to be released next month. Additionally, Arcade Fire premiered the initial single from the album, “Year of The Snake,” on Tuesday.
A press statement for the upcoming album describes the concept of a pink elephant as “that paradoxical effect where the effort to suppress a thought leads to it being impossible to avoid.” Meanwhile, “Year of the Snake” alludes to the 2025 Lunar New Year and symbolizes renewal as Arcade Fire “sheds its skin once again and is reborn.”
The group appears to be moving forward from the allegations directed at Butler three years ago, when five women accused the vocalist of sexual misconduct in reports published by Pitchfork. Butler, who has been married to Arcade Fire bandmate Régine Chassagne since 2003, acknowledged that he had sexual relationships with the women but stated they were consensual.
The claims emerged three months after the band released their sixth album, We, and both Beck and Feist withdrew as support acts for the tour promoting that record. We received a nomination for alternative music album of the year at the 2023 Grammy Awards, although the band ultimately lost to Wet Leg.
The announcement of Pink Elephant follows closely after the band unveiled a new app designed for accessing Arcade Fire news and content, dubbed “Circle of Trust.” Arcade Fire has indicated that they will be announcing several shows in select cities to perform the album in its entirety in the near future.
