Inside Ari Aster’s Wild World: Exploring the Star-Studded Cast of ‘Eddington’ Featuring Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, and Emma Stone

Tensions escalate in a small town in the teaser trailer for the A24 film *Eddington*, directed and written by Ari Aster.

Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, Emma Stone, and Austin Butler lead the cast in this contemporary Western, which is set to premiere next month at the Cannes Film Festival. Alongside the trailer release, A24 announced on Monday that the film will be available in theaters nationwide starting July 18.

*Eddington* explores the conflict between the mayor (Phoenix) and the sheriff (Pascal) of the small town of Eddington, New Mexico. The ensemble cast includes Luke Grimes, Deirdre O’Connell, Michael Ward, Clifton Collins Jr., William Belleau, Cameron Mann, Matt Gomez Hidaka, and Amélie Hoeferle.

“If you value your life, you should think twice because the people at Eddington like guns,” Phoenix warns in a gripping moment from the trailer.

Later in the trailer, Butler states, “Your pain is not a coincidence. You are not a coincidence. We are not a coincidence.”

Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen produce for Square Peg. A24 has previously released all three of Aster’s feature films: *Hereditary* (2018), *Midsommar* (2019), and *Beau Is Afraid* (2023), the latter featuring Phoenix. *Eddington* marks the sixth collaboration between A24 and Square Peg.

Phoenix recently starred in *Joker: Folie à Deux*, while Pascal has appeared in *Gladiator II* and has *Materialists* and *The Fantastic Four: First Steps* set to release this summer. Stone will be featured later this year in Yorgos Lanthimos’ *Bugonia* after starring in his 2024 film *Kinds of Kindness*. Butler’s recent projects include *Dune: Part Two* and *Masters of the Air*, with *Caught Stealing* debuting later this year.
