Ben Affleck Says He ‘Competes’ with His Daughter Over This Specific Skill Set — and He’s Claiming ‘Victory’

Ben Affleck is in competition with one of his kids.
While appearing on Today on Tuesday, April 22, the actor, 52, shared that he and his daughter often compete in one skill set while at home together. Affleck, who shares his kids Samuel, 13, Seraphina, 16, and Violet, 19, with ex-wife Jennifer Garner, 53, said it all comes down to this one language.
“My daughter is a student of Spanish and often competes with me. She’ll tell me hers is better than mine, and I’m glad I had the chance to be on national television and just claim victory,” Affleck jokes.
“But she’ll be appalled, by the way. I will say, yes, I can speak a bit of Spanish, and it’s a nice thing. I learned it when I was younger.”
Earlier this month, Affleck shared that he’s finally getting some recognition from his son, Samuel, after the premiere of his most recent film.
While speaking with E! News at The Accountant 2 premiere, the Gone Girl actor said that he recently received some “high praise” from his teenage son, who the actor said is “shocked” his dad knows people that “he thinks are cool.”
“My son loves everybody, but he’s shocked that I somehow know people he thinks are cool,” Affleck told the outlet. “He’s like, ‘Why do these people want to hang out with my dad?’ Which may be a valuable question, but I’m getting away with it.”
Ahead of the premiere, Samuel watched The Accountant for the first time to get ready for the sequel.
“He watched it and was like, ‘Dad, I think it might be my favorite movie of yours,’ ” Affleck shared. “That was high praise, which doesn’t come easy from your kids.”
Although Samuel is a fan of The Accountant, he didn’t love another one of Affleck’s iconic films.
In an interview with GQ, Affleck shared that while he loved doing the Batman movies, he learned that his iteration of the franchise might have been targeting a demographic that didn’t exist.
“I loved doing the Batman movie,” he began. “In terms of creatively, I really think that I like the idea and the ambition I had for it, which was of the sort of older, broken, damaged Bruce Wayne. And it was something we really went for in the first movie.”
“But what happened was it started to skew too old for a big part of the audience,” the dad of three said. “Like even my own son at the time was too scared to watch the movie. And so when I saw that, I was like, ‘Oh s—, we have a problem.'”
