Benny Blanco Plucks His Unruly Eyebrows and Fans Are Jokingly Calling It the ‘Fiancée Effect’

Selena Gomez may have convinced her fiancé Benny Blanco to try out a potential new step in his grooming routine — but he jokes that he can’t tell the difference.

In a hilarious new video posted to the music producer’s, 37, TikTok account, Blanco can be seen getting his eyebrows plucked and shaved as his actress and musician fiancée Gomez, 32, stands in the background to watch.

“OK, guys, here’s the before,” Blanco begins the video, zooming in on his unruly eyebrows as a stylist gets ready to pluck a few stray hairs.

“Do it light, because I love him,” Gomez can be heard saying in the background, as the stylist tells her: “No, no, I’m not gonna thin nothing out.”

As Blanco laughs and winces at the plucking, he jokingly asks the stylist: “Are we almost done?”

Before long, he reveals his newly cleaned-up eyebrows — but jokes that he “can’t even tell the difference.

“Can you guys?” he asks.

In the comment section of the funny video, fans joked that Blanco — known for his wild curly hairstyle and unibrow — might be the only one who couldn’t tell the difference.

“Respectfully, yes, we can tell the difference,” one commenter wrote.

“The girlfriend effect is finally happening!!” another fan chimed in (although Gomez and Blanco are engaged, not just dating), with others correcting it to “the fiancée effect.” Others complimented his refreshed look, writing: “Huge difference because your eyes pop more now.”

Others wrote that they found Gomez’s reaction to his makeover sweet and complimented the couple’s relationship.

“Selena coming in and saying ‘go light because I love him has to be the purest thing I’ve heard 😭,” another fan commented. “She does not want that man to ever change.”

“She’s so in love 😭 I love this for her 🥹,” another wrote.

The music producer has been candid about having an eccentric sense of style. In November, he opened up in PEOPLE’s 2024 Sexiest Man Alive issue to speak about his fashion sense and self-care routines — which included lots of vintage clothes.

“I think the best thing is mixing it and being yourself,” Blanco said at the time. “If you’re yourself in your clothes, you’re going to feel more confident. For me, I like to wear a lot of vintage clothing. Some people look good with really fresh clothing. Find your lane and rock it. Don’t try to be someone else.”

The star also shared that even if he isn’t always shaping his brows, he still likes to have clear and clean skin.

“…Don’t stink. Do all the stuff. I really think it’s important to have good skin. I have a facialist and she changed my life. I do whatever she says,” he told PEOPLE. “I also don’t believe in always shampooing your hair or conditioning your hair. I’m really clean, but I don’t shower every day. Some people I know shower two to three times a day, but I feel like the oils on your skin don’t have time to rejuvenate and get juicy.”

Gomez and Blanco have been an item since June 2023 and announced their engagement in December 2024.

The producer has been candid about how much he appreciates his fiancée’s style, too. While on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon alongside Gomez on Thursday, March 20, Blanco revealed the Emilia Perez actress’ dress for the 2025 Oscars weighed a staggering 35 lbs. — and he opened up about how hard she and a team from Ralph Lauren worked to get her there in one piece.

“Getting her there was so hard,” admitted the musician, 37. “She’s carrying a 35-lb. dress, and her heels are eight inches high. And then she has to stand on a bus while we’re moving because she can’t sit down.”

Gomez previously rocked the Oscars red carpet in a custom evening gown by the designer that featured “more than 16,000 drops of glass” and required a team of 12 artisans.

He added that a glam team was “sewing” Gomez “into the dress” as they headed to the awards ceremony. In comparison to the Only Murders in the Building actress, Blanco joked that he “looked like a slob.”
