Berlin: New Films From Ira Sachs, Denis Cote Set for Panorama Lineup

The Berlin Film Festival has named the first dozen titles for its 2025 Panorama lineup, Berlin’s main sidebar, and there are a few familiar faces in the mix.

Berlinale regular Ira Sachs will return with Peter Hujar’s Day, starring Ben Wishaw and Rebecca Hall, a feature based on a 1974 conversation between photographer Hujar and his friend Linda Rosenkrantz, offering insight into the New York art scene. Canadian filmmaker and fellow Berlinale alum Denis Côté is back in Panorama with Paul, a documentary on a cleaner who uses his job cleaning homes and sharing his routines on social media to help combat depression and social anxiety.

Other Panorama titles announced Tuesday include Emilie Blichfeldt’s Danish horror feature Den stygge stesøsteren (The Ugly Stepsister), a dark twisted fairy tale, which will premiere in Sundance; Frelle Petersen’s Hjem kaere hjem, a social realist drama on the life of an elder care worker; and Shatara Michelle Ford’s Dreams in Nightmares, which three Black queer women on a road trip through the U.S.

Berlin will announce the full Panorama lineup in early January.

Titles confirmed for the 2025 Panorama include:

Ato noturno (Night Stage), directed by Marcio Reolon and Filipe Matzembacher. Stars: Gabriel Faryas, Cirillo Luna, Henrique Barreira, Ivo Müller, and Kaya Rodrigues.

Bajo las banderas, el sol (Under the Flags, the Sun), directed by Juanjo Pereira (documentary)

Den stygge stesøsteren (The Ugly Stepsister), directed by Emilie Blichfeldt. Stars: Lea Myren, Thea Loch Næss, Ane Dahl Torp, and Flo Fagerli.

Dreams in Nightmares, directed by Shatara Michelle Ford. Stars: Denée Benton, Mars Storm Rucker, Dezi Bing, Sasha Compere, and Charlie Barnett.

Hjem kaere hjem (Home Sweet Home), directed by Frelle Petersen. Stars: Jette Søndergaard, Karen Tygesen, Mimi Bræmer Dueholm, Hanne Knudsen, and Finn Nissen.

Khartoum, directed by Anas Saeed, Rawia Alhag, Ibrahim Snoopy, Timeea M Ahmed, and Phil Cox, Stars: Khadmallah, Majdi, Jawad, Lokain, and Wilson.

Lesbian Space Princess, directed by Emma Hough Hobbs and Leela Varghese. Stars: Shabana Azeez, Gemma Chua Tran, Richard Roxburgh, Bernie Van Tiel, and Mark Bonanno.

Die Möllner Briefe (The Moelln Letters), directed by Martina Priessner. Stars: Hava Arslan, İbrahim Arslan, Namık Arslan, and Yeliz Burhan.

Paul, directed by Denis Côté (documentary)

Peter Hujar’s Day, directed by Ira Sachs. Stars: Ben Wishaw and Rebecca Hall.

Sorda (Deaf), directed by Eva Libertad. Stars: Miriam Garlo, Álvaro Cervantes, Elena Irureta, and Joaquín Notario.

Welcome Home Baby, directed by Andreas Prochaska. Stars: Julia Franz Richter, Reinout Scholten van Aschat, Gerti Drassl, Maria Hofstätter, and Gerhard Liebmann.
