‘Beyond the Spider-Verse’ Sets Directors Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse has caught a pair of directors in its web. Spider-Verse vets Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson will share duties on the third chapter in the trilogy, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Persichetti was among the co-directors of the 2018 Oscar-winner Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and worked as an executive producer on 2022’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

Thompson was production designer on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and eventually joined Joaquim Dos Santos and Kemp Powers as directors on the film, which earned $690.5 million globally. The animated films, which voice star Shameik Moore as Spider-Man/Miles Morales, have been praised for their visual inventiveness and helped raise the bar for superhero films.

“We have had the immense privilege of being part of Miles’ journey from the very beginning, and directing the conclusion to his story is beyond exciting,” said the directors in a statement. “The creativity and care poured into every minute of this project has been truly inspiring. We have crafted what we feel is a very satisfying ending, and we can’t wait for fans to experience it – we’re bringing everything we’ve got!”

The film has no date. It was previously set for March 29, 2024 — but the studio removed it from the calendar in July amid a release date shakeup related to the dual writers and actors strikes.

Franchise masterminds Phil Lord and Chris Miller return to produce with Amy Pascal and Avi Arad, and Jinko Gotoh. Aditya Sood and Christina Steinberg are executive producing. Jessica Berri serves as co-producer. Lord and Miller return to write the script with David Callaham.

“Bob and Justin’s fingerprints are woven into the DNA of these films, and their passion for Miles’ journey shines through in every frame of his last adventure,” said Lord and Miller. “There is nothing more rewarding than collaborating with creative partners with bold vision and brilliant execution like Bob and Justin.  We are thrilled to work with them once again to create a beautiful and satisfying conclusion to this story.”

Deadline first reported the news.
