Melissa Aouate Takes the Helm as President of Blumhouse TV: A New Era Begins

Blumhouse TV has appointed its new president: Melissa Aouate from Fabel Entertainment.

Aouate takes over from Chris McCumber, the previous USA Network executive who left the position in October 2023. Jason Gold, the president of production at Blumhouse TV, had been serving in the role on an interim basis.

The unscripted department of Blumhouse TV will continue to be managed by Gretchen Palek, head of alternative television, the company announced on Thursday. Rob Hackett remains as the head of television for Atomic Monster, which operates as a distinct label within Blumhouse. In 2024, Jason Blum’s Blumhouse merged with James Wan’s Atomic Monster, creating a unique space for horror—if such a thing exists. The two labels had previously collaborated on projects like Insidious, M3GAN, and Night Swim.

Blumhouse TV is behind the recently released The Bondsman, featuring Kevin Bacon, as well as the forthcoming Scarpetta series starring Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis for Amazon Prime Video. The company is also known for producing Showtime’s The Good Lord Bird and HBO’s Sharp Objects.

Aouate previously served as president and partner at Fabel for nine years. Fabel Entertainment is recognized for creating Bosch and also produces Brilliant Minds for NBC.

“We’re incredibly fortunate to have found Melissa to lead Blumhouse’s scripted television division,” expressed Abhijay Prakash, the president of Blumhouse. “Melissa brings exceptional taste and an impressive track record of success with both edgy and mainstream content. As we continue to grow and maintain our slate of ongoing scripted series, I’m thrilled to welcome her to Blumhouse.”

“Blumhouse has established one of the most innovative brands in film, characterized by bold and visceral storytelling that resonates with diverse audiences. It’s an inclusive space that values creative risk-taking and consistently prioritizes the viewer’s experience. I couldn’t be more excited to lead the effort to expand on that vision for television,” Aouate stated.

Before her time at Fabel, Aouate was a literary agent at ICM Partners.
