Brian Austin Green Undergoes Surgery for Perforated Appendix, Says He’s ‘on the Road to Recovery’

- Brian Austin Green has shared that he recently underwent emergency surgery for a perforated appendix after experiencing stomach pain
- The actor said doctors discovered his appendix had “not quite burst, but just before”
- Green praised staff at Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center in Los Angeles for his treatment and aftercare
Brian Austin Green had to get emergency surgery last week after doctors discovered the pain he was feeling in his stomach was actually a perforated appendix.
The Beverly Hills, 90210 actor opened up about the scary experience in an Instagram video shared on Monday, April 14, as he thanked the doctors at Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center in Los Angeles, Calif. for taking care of him.
In the clip, the 51-year-old actor explained that he found his way to the facility after visiting “a couple different emergency rooms in the Valley around where I live” to try and understand the root of his stomach pain.
The previous facilities being too crowded, he visited Providence Cedards-Sinai where medical professionals found he had a perforated appendix — “not quite burst, but just before,” as he put it.
A perforated appendix can lead to severe complications if untreated. According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), the condition occurs when the appendix develops a hole, allowing bacteria to spill into the abdominal cavity. This can can cause the appendix to burst, leading to peritonitis — a life-threatening infection of the abdominal lining — or an appendiceal abscess, a localized collection of pus.
Luckily for Green, doctors caught the condition in time. The experience compelled Green to make his video and share his story so he could sing their praises.
“They were fantastic,” he said. “They got me in right away, got me right into surgery. The after-care was phenomenal. When I tell you every single person that was there was incredible kind and loving and supportive and helpful, I mean it. Every single person.”
“I think when you find great places with great people and they work really hard for you, they deserve a shout-out. So that’s what I’m doing,” Green added. “So everyone at the hospital, thank you so much for everything that you did in taking care of me.”
Green is a father of five. He shares son Kassius Lijah, 21, with ex-girlfriend Vanessa Marcil and sons Noah Shannon, 12, Bodhi Ransom, 11, and Journey River, 8, with ex-wife Megan Fox. In June 2022, the actor welcomed his fifth child, Zane Walker, with his now-fiancée, Sharna Burgess.
He went on, in his video, to share about his health now, telling his 786,000 Instagram followers, “I’m on the road to recovery.”
“It’s not an easy process,” Green said. “This is my first surgery; my first major surgery, I’ve had small ones.”
This isn’t the first time Green has gotten candid about his health.
In October 2023, he revealed that he spent four and a half years recovering from stroke-like symptoms without ever having had a stroke. He was bedridden for three months and struggled to read, write and speak.
Doctors initially diagnosed him with vertigo and ulcerative colitis, but nearly 200 blood tests and two MRIs still left the top neurologists in the country stunned as to what the root cause could be. Once Green was able to connect with a new physician, he was told his medical issues stemmed from “internal inflammation from gluten and dairy” and stress.
Changing his diet helped his condition, he said.
