British Rapper and ‘Supacell’ Star Ghetts Appears in London Court Over Fatal Hit-and-Run

Ghetts, star of hit Netflix show Supacell, has appeared in a London court after a fatal hit-and-run last week.

The British rapper, whose real name is Justin Clarke-Samuel, is charged with causing death by dangerous driving after allegedly failing to stop his car when it hit 20-year-old Yubin Tamang in east London on Saturday, Oct. 18.

Ghetts spoke in court on Monday to confirm his name, date of birth and address before being remanded in custody, according to BBC News. He is due to appear at the Old Bailey, London’s main criminal court, on Nov. 24.

The 41-year-old is a well-known grime MC and songwriter, having picked up Mercury Prize and BET Awards nominations. Among his more high-profile team-ups are songs with Ed Sheeran and Stormzy.

In 2021, Ghetts won best male act at the Music of Black Origin Awards, known as the Mobo Awards in his native U.K. In 2024, he was honored with the Mobo Pioneer award for his significant contribution to British Black culture.

Last year, he shot to international fame as icy villain Krazy in Rapman’s Netflix series Supacell with Tosin Cole, Adelayo Adedayo, Eric Kofi-Abrefa, Calvin Demba, Josh Tedeku, Nadine Mills and Eddie Marsan.

The show, renewed for a second season, follows a group of young Black people in south London brought together when they suddenly develop superpowers. Supacell was the most-watched show on Netflix upon its release, holding the top spot globally and accruing a total of 179.6 million hours viewed from June to December last year.
