Bryce Dallas Howard’s 2 Kids: All About the Deep Cover Star’s Son Theodore and Daughter Beatrice

Bryce Dallas Howard has worked hard to give her two children — son Theodore and daughter Beatrice — the most normal life possible.

Howard married her college sweetheart, actor Seth Gabel, in 2006, and the couple started their family one year later with the birth of their son in 2007. They completed their family in 2012 when their daughter was born.

The Jurassic World actress has a famous dad herself, director Ron Howard, who took care to keep her out of the spotlight until she was an adult.

“What my parents did that was great was they exposed all of us to movie sets and making movies and the crew,” she told PEOPLE in 2015. “We weren’t exposed to the side of the industry that’s perceived as being more glamorous. … No premieres — nothing like that I think that that was a good call.” Howard said it’s the “same deal” for her own kids now.

Though the Deep Cover star admitted to PEOPLE in 2018 that her kids “don’t like it when [she] travels” for work, she does love when they get to go new places together. “It’s such an awesome thing to get to travel with them and for them to get to see that my husband and I get to do creative work that we’re really excited about and we’re really inspired by,” she previously told PEOPLE. “It’s really fun for us and rewarding and challenging.”

It’s also fun for The Help actress to pick projects that her kids will enjoy, like 2025’s Pets. “That might even be subconsciously one of the reasons why I lean into projects that I know they’ll be excited about,” she told PEOPLE in 2022. “Because they’re making sacrifices as well.”

Here’s everything to know about Bryce Dallas Howard’s two kids, Theodore and Beatrice.

Theodore Norman Gabel, 18

Howard and Gabel’s first child, son Theodore Norman, was born on Feb. 16, 2007, just one year after they got married. Howard was pregnant with her son while filming Spider-Man 3.

Theo grew up traveling with his mom and dad for work and met a lot of people along the way. In June 2015, Howard told PEOPLE that she would enroll her kids in local schools whenever she had to shoot for long periods in a new place, “so they get to meet a lot of new friends,” she shared. “They love to travel.”

Though Howard told PEOPLE in February 2024 that her kids wouldn’t describe her as “strict,” she is intense “when it comes to safety.” That came into play when Howard needed to teach Theo how to drive.

“The poor boy, what I put him through,” she laughed. “He basically can be a race car driver at this point because I’m like, ‘You’re not allowed to get your license until you know how to do every defensive driving move imaginable.’ ”

While Howard and Gabel have kept their son out of the spotlight, the actress shared a few throwback photos of her now-teenager on social media. For Theo’s 17th birthday, she posted a photo of her son as a baby wearing an Elmo birthday hat. “I am in such awe of the deeply kind, ever-stylish, creative, smart, and wonderful man you’re becoming and I am so grateful to be your mom,” she captioned the image.

Now 18, Theo seems to be following his parents’ lead into show business. “Theo is definitely on the filmmaker track in a big way,” Howard told Zoe and Stacey Winkler on their What in the Winkler podcast in March 2025.

“In summer camp, everybody wanted him to act in their film as well,” Howard’s dad, Ron, added.

Beatrice Jean Gabel, 13

Howard and Gabel welcomed their daughter, Beatrice, on Jan. 19, 2012. While the actress has been open with her struggles with postpartum depression following the birth of her first child, she was “hell bent” on feeling supported after welcoming Beatrice.

“I didn’t get [postpartum depression] the second time around,” she told PEOPLE in 2015. “It was so emotional for me because I didn’t feel comfortable asking for that kind of help. For my friends and family, they were so glad that I did and it made me think back to the first one, they were all there. I am blessed that they did completely support me in all the ways.”

In the same interview, Howard opened up about her then-3-year-old’s quirky personality. “Seeing my daughter articulate her thoughts and feelings is so interesting,” Howard said. “A couple of days ago, my husband and I were putting her to bed and she said, ‘Mommy and Daddy, I’m so glad that you saw me at the store and brought me home.’ I was like, where on Earth did she get this? ‘Beatrice, remember, you chose us. You chose us and you grew in my belly and that’s how we met you.’ And she was like, ‘Oh, yes.’ ”

Beatrice is a big fan of her mom’s work, and the older she gets, the more she appreciates it — like when Howard worked with John Cena and Dua Lipa on Argylle.

“I couldn’t believe it. My daughter knew everyone that I was working with,” The Village star told PEOPLE in April 2022. “She was like, ‘Oh my gosh, I was such a big fan of John Cena! I love Dua Lipa!’ I’m like, ‘Who are you?’ “

Beatrice has also made good friends with the kids of some of Howard’s costars — like Jurassic World star Chris Pratt’s son, Jack. “Jack’s in love,” Pratt shared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2017. “I asked him the other day, ‘If you could have pizza with any one of your friends, who would it be?’ And he was like, [dreamy voice], ‘Beatrice.’ ”

“They really have an incredible friendship. It’s awesome,” Howard added.

In a sweet message for Beatrice’s 10th birthday in 2022, Howard described her daughter as being “a person with incredible kindness, sparkling wit and genuine love for others and the world around her.” Two years later, Howard mentioned in another post that her daughter is hilarious and gives “amazing advice (far beyond your years).”

While Howard seems to share many traits with her children, her red hair is not one of them. “My redhead lineage is very strong,” she told Conan O’Brien in 2021. “Then my kids are blond! They’re all so blond! I just feel like I failed. They also didn’t get [fair skin and freckles], they have these kinda golden tans!”
