CEO Shooting Suspect Luigi Mangione Moved to Notorious Facility Housing ‘Diddy’ as Both Await Trial

The notorious Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn is once again housing a headline-grabbing accused criminal now that Luigi Mangione, the alleged gunman in the murder of the CEO of UnitedHealthcare, has joined rap mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs at the troubled facility as the two await trial.

Mangione, 26, was transported to MDC on Thursday, according to multiple outlets, and was listed as an inmate by Friday morning, according to online records; his release date is listed as unknown and aside from his age, the record contains no other information. A representative for Agnifilo Intrater, the law firm representing Mangione in New York, confirmed with The Hollywood Reporter on Friday that he is being held at MDC Brooklyn.

Their pre-trial detention site is not the only element that Mangione and Combs’ cases have in common. Not only is the same New York firm representing them, their attorneys are married. Karen Friedman Agnifilo will represent Mangione in New York, it was announced last week, while Combs has retained her husband, Marc Agnifilo, to represent the rap world star in his sprawling RICO and sex trafficking case, which is set for trial in May.

On Dec. 9, Mangione was charged in New York with second-degree murder, three counts of illegal weapons possession, and forgery; in Pennsylvania on the same day, he’d been charged with carrying a gun without a license, forgery, falsely identifying himself to the authorities, and possessing “instruments of crime. On Tuesday, New York prosecutors charged him with first-degree murder as murder committed in furtherance of terrorism. Friedman Agnifilo called this “unusual” move out in court on Thursday.

On Thursday, Mangione made an initial appearance at New York federal court after he was extradited there following his arrest on Dec. 9 in an Altoona, Pennsylvania McDonald’s. This week, potentially damning evidence mounted in the case against Mangione, including a 3-4 printed gun and multiple fake IDs. Journals were reportedly discovered where he apparently conveyed his hatred of the healthcare system.

“The federal government’s reported decision to pile on top of an already overcharged first-degree murder and state terror case is highly unusual and raises serious constitutional and statutory double jeopardy concerns,” she said in a statement this week. “We are ready to fight these charges in whatever court they are brought.”

Before joining Agnifilo Intrater, Friedman Agnifilo worked as the chief assistant district as the second in command to DA Cyrus Vance. She is known to be a well-connected legal professional and is familiar with the judges who could potentially oversee Mangione’s case.

In addition to his ongoing legal representation of Combs, Agnofilio represented disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein.

Thompson was shot in the back and right calf on 54th Street in Manhattan on Dec. 4 outside of the Midtown Hilton hotel; the 50-year-old was in town to attend the United Healthcare annual investors’ meeting. The assailant, using a suppressed 9mm pistol, fired three shots; Inscribed on the cartridge cases used in the shooting were the words “Delay” “Deny” and “Depose.”
