Cheryl Hines and RFK Jr. Seen Hand-in-Hand Following His Alleged ‘Personal Relationship’ with Reporter
Cheryl Hines and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. were spotted holding hands together in Massachusetts over the weekend — just under a month after the news of Kennedy’s alleged “personal relationship” with Olivia Nuzzi of New York Magazine.
In photos obtained by the Daily Mail from Saturday, Oct. 12, the 70-year-old former presidential candidate and the Curb Your Enthusiasm star, 59, could be seen strolling hand-in-hand around the Kennedy family’s compound in Hyannis Port.
During the Massachusetts visit, the pair — who have been married since 2014 — visited a local gym and a grocery store, while Hines was seen with her hand on Kennedy’s shoulder at one point, per the Daily Mail. The outlet reported that Kennedy was not seen with his wedding band on, while Hines was wearing hers.
Representatives for Kennedy and Hines did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment on Sunday, Oct. 13.
Their affectionate time together comes just days after the death of Kennedy’s 96-year-old mother Ethel Kennedy on Thursday, Oct. 10, with Hines praising her husband’s tribute to Ethel on social media.
Kennedy’s sister Kerry first announced that their mother had died in a statement on Oct.10, and he later shared a tribute to his mother on X (formerly Twitter) the same day, calling her a “role model” for her children.
As he wrote, she “never lost her sense of fun, her humor, her spark, her spunk, and her joie de vivre” and spent the years since his father Robert F. Kennedy’s 1968 assassination “yearning” for when they would reunite.
The emotional tribute also saw Kennedy share details of his mother’s parenting, writing, “My mother invented tough love, and she could be hard on her children when we didn’t live up to her expectations. But she was also intensely loyal, and we always knew that she would stand fiercely behind us when we came under attack by others.”
“I credit her for all my virtues. I’m grateful for her generosity in overlooking my faults,” he ended the lengthy and heartfelt post.
“This is beautiful. Your mother was very proud of you. 🤍,” Hines wrote in the comment section.
An alleged “personal relationship” between Kennedy and Nuzzi first made headlines when New York magazine published a statement about the journalist being put on leave on Sept. 19, noting that she “acknowledged” that she “engaged in a personal relationship with a former subject relevant to the 2024 campaign.”
Since then, Nuzzi shared in a statement with PEOPLE that “the nature of some communication” between herself and “a former reporting subject turned personal,” but said she “did not directly report on the subject nor use them as a source” during that time.
“The relationship was never physical but should have been disclosed to prevent the appearance of a conflict,” she added in her statement. “I deeply regret not doing so immediately and apologize to those I’ve disappointed, especially my colleagues at New York.”
A Kennedy representative told The Washington Post that the former presidential candidate only met Nuzzi once for her November 2023 story on his campaign.
On Saturday, Oct. 5, Kennedy and Hines were spotted together for the first time since the alleged “relationship” reports. They were seen out in Malibu, Calif., in a car while stopping at Starbucks, per images and details published by Page Six.
Hines, who also recently spent some time in Europe for Paris and Milan Fashion Week, was reportedly not wearing a wedding ring at the time of her Oct. 5 visit with Kennedy.
A source close to Hines told PEOPLE on Oct. 7 that she was “talking about filing for divorce, but he’s begging her not to file.” A representative for Hines had no comment at the time.
Hines has not publicly addressed her husband’s alleged extramarital relationship.
