Conan Does the Haka With Taika Waititi in New Trailer For ‘Conan O’Brien Must Go’

Conan O’Brien will dance, sing, and do the Haka around the world in season two of the Max original series Conan O’Brien Must Go, which will debut May 8 on the streaming platform.

Max debuted a new trailer for the show Friday, including scenes with O’Brien and some celebrity hosts, including Javier Bardem, and Taiki Waititi, as well as regular people he meets along the way.

The series sees the podcaster and former late night host travel to different countries where he meets with locals and explores their food, customs, and culture, often embracing the role as the uneducated wacky American.

“I do like to be the odd person out, the one that doesn’t fit in,” O’Brien told The Hollywood Reporter’s Mikey O’Connell last year. “I think I’m funnier when I’m not in the power position. I was talking to one guy, and he was sort of looking at my skin, my freckles, and he’s like, ‘Are you ill?’ Those are the situations that just inherently amuse me — when a bit of the joke is on me.”

Conan O’Brien Must Go was ordered in 2023, though the Hollywood strikes delayed its debut until 2024, where it garnered positive reviews, including from THR’s Daniel Fienberg, who wrote that the Max series “is a smartly dumb show — or a stupidly smart show — focused (loosely) on what is essential about travel.”

“It’s a series about arriving in a new place open to meeting new people, learning new languages, tasting new foods and experiencing uncomfortable new circumstances … and then making fun of them, when all the while you’re mostly mocking yourself and the fears people have about stepping outside of their comfort zones,” Fienberg continued.

Max picked up a second season before it debuted, and ordered a season three ahead of the upcoming season.
