Amazon Plans Exciting New Series Adaptation of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

Prime Video is set to bring the enchanting world of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon to television screens.
The Amazon-owned streaming platform, in collaboration with Sony Pictures Television, is developing a series adaptation based on the Crane-Iron Pentalogy series of novels by Wang Dulu. These books also served as the foundation for Ang Lee’s Oscar-winning film released in 2000.
Jason Ning, known for his work on Lucifer and The Brother Sun, will be writing the series and serving as an executive producer alongside Ron Moore, celebrated for Outlander and Battlestar Galactica. Both Ning and Moore have overall deals with Sony, which released Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon through its Sony Pictures Classics label and holds the rights to the Crane-Iron books.
The logline for the potential series reads, “Amidst stunning landscapes and spectacular action, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon follows Shu Lien and Mu Bai, two star-crossed warriors, as they struggle between forbidden love and the pull of modernity — caught between preserving their way of life or embracing a future together.”
In Lee’s film, the lead roles were beautifully portrayed by Michelle Yeoh and Chow Yun-Fat, alongside Zhang Ziyi. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon garnered four Oscars in 2001, winning awards for best foreign language film, cinematography, art direction, and original score. Lee was nominated for best director, and the film also received a nomination for best picture.
Ning and Moore, through his Tall Ship Productions, will executive produce along with Johnny Levin, Roy Lee from Vertigo Entertainment, Maril Davis of Tall Ship Productions, and Hong Wang and Qin Wang representing the Wang Dulu estate. Ying Lou will serve as a co-executive producer.
