Daytime Drama ’Beyond the Gates’ Renewed for Second Season on CBS

CBS will continue to peer Beyond the Gates.
The network has renewed its daytime soap for a second season in 2025-26. Beyond the Gates has performed solidly in the ratings, improving significantly on the year-ago numbers for its afternoon time period (which was filled by The Talk) and helping CBS lead daytime among broadcast networks for the 39th straight year.

The series — the first daytime drama to center on Black characters since NBC’s Generations premiered in 1989 — premiered in February to 2.28 million cross-platform viewers for its first week. To date, Beyond the Gates has improved on The Talk’s year-ago performance by 48 percent on CBS alone — where it averages 1.82 million viewers — and 67 percent across all platforms.
CBS ordered Beyond the Gates in February 2024. The show comes from the CBS Studios/NAACP Venture, led by Sheila Ducksworth, in association with Procter & Gamble’s P&G Studios. Michele Val Jean created the series and serves as showrunner, executive producing with Ducksworth, Julie Carruthers, Tracey Thompson, Leon W. Russell, Derrick Johnson, Kimberly Doebereiner and Anna Saalfeld.
CBS will finish the 2024-25 season as the top broadcast network in daytime, as it has every season since 1986-87. The Price Is Right is the No. 1 show in daytime, averaging 3.95 million viewers, and The Young and the Restless continues to lead all daytime dramas in viewers with 3.29 million.
