Dexter Morgan and More Serial Killers Unite in ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ Trailer

It turns out that Dexter Morgan is not alone in his proclivities. In fact, when he lands in New York City, he finds himself among an Avengers-style gathering of serial killers, and decides to lean into his dark passenger.

At least that’s what the trailer for sequel series Dexter: Resurrection implied when it dropped on Saturday at CCXP Mexico City. The footage gives fans of the Dexter franchise their biggest peek yet into what showrunner Clyde Phillips and star Michael C. Hall have in store when they resurrect Dexter Morgan this summer.

Hall reprises his role as the titular serial killer for the sequel series, which is releasing after the first season of origin story Dexter: Original Sin. Dexter: Resurrection is a continuation of the first sequel series Dexter: New Blood and picks up immediately after that 2021 limited series left off, with Dexter surviving being shot by his son, Harrison (Jack Alcott, who also returns).

Dexter’s resuscitation was first revealed in a flash-forward in Dexter: Original Sin (which has been renewed for a second season and was also headed up by Phillips).

The trailer below shows that Resurrection will waste no time getting into the long-awaited reunion between Dexter and his former pal and coworker, Miami Metro’s Angel Batista (David Zayas). New Blood ended with Batista realizing Dexter could be the infamous Bay Harbor Butcher, and the detective confronts his former friend with the accusation while Dexter is still recovering in the hospital. The reunion sends Dexter running, and he picks New York City as a great place to try to be anonymous in.

The trailer doesn’t show exactly how it happens, but he ends up hooking up with new franchise characters played by Uma Thurman and Peter Dinklage, and that’s where he’s introduced to more serial killers played by Neil Patrick Harris, Krysten Ritter, Eric Stonestreet and David Dastmalchian, who guest star as Lowell, Mia, Al and Gareth, respectively. “Only in New York,” says Dexter.

Dexter: Resurrection launches with two episodes on Friday, July 11 on Paramount+ and for subscribers with the Paramount+ with SHOWTIME plan before its on-air debut Sunday, July 13 at 8:00 pm. The rest of the season rolls out weekly.

The series is currently in production in New York.

Elsewhere in the trailer, Batista is seen trying to set Dexter’s son Harrison on the right path, while James Remar returns as the ghost of Dexter’s dead father, Harry, to try to advise his son to do the same.

Here’s the logline: “Resurrection takes place weeks after Dexter Morgan (Hall) takes a bullet to the chest from his own son, as he awakens from a coma to find Harrison (Jack Alcott) gone without a trace. Realizing the weight of what he put his son through, Dexter sets out for New York City, determined to find him and make things right. But closure won’t come easy. When Miami Metro’s Angel Batista (David Zayas) arrives with questions, Dexter realizes his past is catching up to him fast. As father and son navigate their own darkness in the city that never sleeps, they soon find themselves deeper than they ever imagined – and that the only way out is together.”

Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Kadia Saraf, Dominic Fumusa and Emilia Suárez round out the cast.

The series is executive produced by showrunner Phillips and Hall, along with Scott Reynolds, Tony Hernandez, Lilly Burns and Marcos Siega. Resurrection is produced by Showtime Studios and Counterpart Studios. The series is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
