‘Elle’ Adds ‘Never Have I Ever’ Star Maitreyi Ramakrishnan to Season 2 Cast

Maitreyi Ramakrishnan is going back to high school.
The star of Netflix’s Never Have I Ever has joined season two of Elle, Prime Video’s Legally Blonde prequel that tracks Elle Woods’ teen years. The show is set to premiere in July, and the Amazon-owned streamer gave Elle an early season two pickup last month.
In season two, Ramakrishnan will play Sam, who is Elle’s (Lexi Minetree) foil in high school — “possessing all our hero’s ambition and none of her optimism,” the character description reads. “She’s the founder, editor-in-chief, and lord baron of the school newspaper, the commissioner of the grammar police, and the enemy of joy. If Cosmo is Elle’s bible, the AP Stylebook is her holy grail.”
The 1990s-set Elle will follow the title character through high school and some of the experiences that shaped her into the character audiences first met in Legally Blonde. Laura Kittrell (High School, Insecure) created the series, and Reese Witherspoon, who played Elle in the Legally Blonde films, is among the show’s executive producers.
Along with Minetree, season one of Elle stars June Diane Raphael and Tom Everett Scott as Elle’s parents, Gabrielle Policano, Jacob Moskovitz, Chandler Kinney, and Zac Looker. Jessica Belkin, Logan Shroyer, Amy Pietz, Matt Oberg, Chloe Wepper, David Burtka, Brad Harder, Kayla Maisonet, Lisa Yamada, and the late James Van Der Beek have recurring roles.
Kittrell and Caroline Dries are co-showrunners on season two. They executive produce with Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter of Hello Sunshine, Marc Platt and Amanda Brown. Amazon MGM Studios and Hello Sunshine are producing.
In addition to Never Have I Ever, Ramakrishnan’s credits include Freakier Friday and voice work on Disney’s Turning Red and several My Little Pony shows and movies. She is repped by CAA, Premier Artists Management and Felker Toczek.
