HBO’s Hacks and FX’s The Bear swept the 2024 Emmys, which aired last night on ABC from the Peacock Theater at L.A. Live and is now streaming on demand on Hulu.
Hacks took home the award for best comedy series, a surprise win over The Bear, which won the trophy last year. Hacks star Jean Smart won best actress in a comedy series for her role as Deborah Vance, and the Max series also won best writing for a comedy series.
FX’s award-winning series The Bear scored 23 nods (the most nominations in a single year for a comedy series) and took home four awards, including best actor (Jeremy Allen White), best supporting actor in a comedy series (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), best supporting actress in a comedy series (Liza Colón-Zayas) and best directing for a comedy series.
Nominated for 21 awards, Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building brought Selena Gomez her first nod for best actress in a comedy series after getting snubbed in years past. Other nominees include Abbott Elementary (which earned award-winning writer and star Quinta Brunson her first Emmy for acting), Curb Your Enthusiasm, What We Do in the Shadows, Hacks, Palm Royale and Reservation Dogs.
