Eric Dane Opens Up About His ALS Diagnosis: A Journey of Strength and Resilience
Eric Dane has recently announced that he has been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
The 52-year-old actor shared his diagnosis in an interview, stating, “I have been diagnosed with ALS. I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.”
ALS, commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a neurological condition that impacts nerve cells in both the brain and spinal cord, leading to a gradual loss of muscle control. According to medical sources, the disease progresses over time, and unfortunately, there is currently no cure.
While Dane kept details about his diagnosis minimal, he did mention that he plays Cal Jacobs, the patriarch of the Jacobs family in the series Euphoria. He also expressed his intention to return to the set next week to continue filming the highly acclaimed HBO series.
“I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to the set of Euphoria next week,” he noted. “I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.”
In addition to his role in Euphoria, Dane is well-known for portraying Dr. Mark Sloan, the charming plastic surgeon, on the long-running medical drama Grey’s Anatomy from 2006 to 2012. He has also appeared in numerous other projects, including Charmed, The Last Ship, and Kabul.
Dane has two teenage children with his wife, Rebecca Gayheart.
In addition, several prominent individuals have also faced a diagnosis of ALS, including Stephen Hawking, Lou Gehrig, Roberta Flack, Dennis Day, Steve Gleason, and Aaron Lazar.
