Foo Fighters Are Back With First Song Since 2023 to Celebrate 30th Anniversary

Foo Fighters have returned with their first song since 2023, releasing “Today’s Song” on Wednesday to commemorate the rock band’s 30th anniversary.
Along with the song, Dave Grohl also shared an extensive letter and audio recording for fans, where Grohl thanked drummer Josh Freese, who was let go from the group back in May, and paid tribute the band’s former longtime drummer Taylor Hawkins, who died back in 2022.
“Over the years, we’ve had moments of unbridled joy, and moments of devastating heartbreak,” Grohl said on Wednesday. “Moments of beautiful victory, and moments of painful defeat. We have mended broken bones and broken hearts. But we have followed this road together, with each other, for each other, no matter what. Because in life, you just can’t go it alone.”
“It should go without saying that without the boundless energy of William Goldsmith, the seasoned wisdom of Franz Stahl and the thunderous wizardry of Josh Freese, this story would be incomplete,” Grohl continued. “So we extend our heartfelt gratitude for the time, music and memories that we shared with each of them over the years. Thank you, gentlemen.”
“Today’s Song” is the band’s first song since their 2023 album But Here We Are, and it comes following a turbulent few years for Foo Fighters. Hawkins’ death devastated the band and their fanbase as they lost their longest-tenured drummer. Grohl also drew significant press himself last year after revealing that he had a child outside of his marriage. And then there was Freese’s dismissal two months ago.
Of Hawkins, Grohl wrote, “Your name is spoken every day, sometimes with tears, sometimes with a smile, but you are still in everything we do, everywhere we go, forever.”
“The enormity of your beautiful soul is only rivaled by the infinite longing we feel in your absence,” Grohl wrote. “We all miss you beyond words. Foo Fighters will forever include Taylor Hawkins in every note that we play, until we do finally reach our destination.”
Aside from the new song, Foo Fighters are hitting the road for some international dates later this fall, playing in Jakarta, Indonesia on October 2, Singapore on October 4, Tokyo on October 7, Osaka, Japan on October 10 and Mexico City on November 14.
The letter is available to read in full on the band’s website, and the audio of the letter is available below.
