Gal Gadot’s Walk of Fame Ceremony Becomes Flashpoint for Israel-Gaza War Protests

A skirmish among protesters erupted apparently over a swiped Israeli flag during the unveiling ceremony for Gal Gadot’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Tuesday.

Gadot, an Israeli actress who has broken through into Hollywood’s A-list with a top franchise role as Wonder Woman, was honored by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce at an 11:30 a.m. ceremony. The actor, who stars in this weekend’s upcoming wide release, Snow White, has become a lightning rod of a figure amid the Israel-Gaza conflict as she’s outspoken in support of her home country.

On Tuesday, near the corner of Hollywood Boulevard adjacent to El Capitan, demonstrators on both sides of the Israel-Hamas conflict turned up to let their voices be heard. In a video posted online by TMZ, at one point what appears to be a pro-Palestine demonstrator is seen being chased by two people after apparently snatching an Israeli flag from someone at the event.

An individual is seen quickly running down Hollywood Boulevard in the dramatic footage, weaving around the crowd while being pursued by two others. After a few seconds, the person is grabbed by one of the pursuers by the shoulders and pulled aside.

“Get out of the way!” one officer yells as several cops in LAPD jackets race to the scene and start to throw everyone involved against a wall. Screams of “Don’t touch her” can be heard, but it’s unclear to whom the person shouting is referring.

An LAPD public information officer told The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday afternoon that there were no arrests and that the skirmish was a moment of “crowd control” by the officers at the event.

Gadot has previously discussed being an indigenous Israeli and how her grandfather was his family’s sole survivor of the Holocaust and resettled in Israel. Prior to Gadot’s career as an actor, she completed compulsory service in the Israel Defense Forces under the country’s military service laws.

At her unveiling ceremony, Gadot was introduced by director Patty Jenkins and her Fast franchise co-star, Vin Diesel. She was joined there by her husband, Jaron Versano and their four daughters, Alma, Maya, Daniella and Ori.
