George Clooney, Adam Sandler’s ‘Jay Kelly’ From Noah Baumbach Lands Awards Season Release

The new Netflix feature starring George Clooney and Adam Sandler is set for theatrical release during the prime awards-season corridor.

Director Noah Baumbach‘s Jay Kelly will hit theaters Nov. 14 before it begins streaming three weeks later on Dec. 5. Baumbach helmed the movie from a script he co-wrote with Emily Mortimer, and a first-look image of Clooney in the project can be seen above.

Mortimer co-stars in the film that boasts an ensemble cast of Billy Crudup, Laura Dern, Grace Edwards, Stacy Keach, Riley Keough, Patrick Wilson, Nicôle Lecky, Thaddea Graham, Jim Broadbent, Eve Hewson, Alba Rohrwacher, Lenny Henry, Josh Hamilton and Greta Gerwig.

Limited plot details have been shared about the feature that centers on the titular character, who is well-known but has a lot to still learn about himself. Baumbach, David Heyman and Amy Pascal serve as producers.

Jay Kelly marks Baumbach’s fourth Netflix movie as director, following White NoiseMarriage Story and The Meyerowitz Stories. The latter title launched in 2017 and stars Sandler opposite Ben Stiller, Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson.

Baumbach co-wrote Warner Bros.’ 2023 hit Barbie with Gerwig, who directed the Margot Robbie-led feature. Among other previous credits, he co-wrote Wes Anderson’s 2009 animated film Fantastic Mr. Fox, which featured Clooney in the lead voice role.

Clooney’s recent credits include appearing in last year’s film Wolfs and voicing a character in IF, along with directing the Amazon MGM Studios drama The Boys in the Boat. He currently stars in the smash Broadway adaptation of his 2005 movie Good Night, and Good Luck.

Sandler has a long history with Netflix, which includes starring in the streamer’s recent titles Spaceman, You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah and Murder Mystery 2, along with voicing the titular role in the animated feature Leo. The star can soon be seen in Netflix’s comedy sequel Happy Gilmore 2, which begins streaming this summer.
