Grammy Nominations: Kendrick Lamar Leads With Nine, Lady Gaga Nabs Seven

Kendrick Lamar is the top nominee for the 2026 Grammys, the Recording Academy revealed in its nomination livestream on Friday, with the rap superstar heading into this year’s awards with nine nominations including for album, record and song of the year for album GNX and its hit single “Luther.”

Lamar, who now has 66 nominations across his career, looks to continue the momentum from last year’s Grammys, where he won for both record and song of the year for “Not Like Us,” though he faces stiff competition from fellow superstars Lady Gaga, Bad Bunny and Sabrina Carpenter, who received nominations in all the general field categories alongside him.

Gaga is the second-most-nominated artist this year with seven, as Mayhem was also nominated for album of the year while single “Abracadabra” nabbed record and song of the year nods too. Bad Bunny’s got six, as DeBí TiRAR MáS FOToS earned an album of the year nom while “DtMF” got record and song of the year nods. Carpenter earned nominations in all the major categories for the second year in a row as Man’s Best Friend picked up a nomination for album of the year while voters tapped “Manchild” for record and song. Overall, she scored six nominations this year.

In record of the year, Bad Bunny, Gaga, Carpenter and Lamar go against Doechii’s “Anxiety,” Billie Eilish’s “WILDFLOWER,” Chappell Roan‘s “The Subway” and Rosé and Bruno Mars’ global smash “APT.” Song of the year is nearly identical, though KPop Demon Hunters‘ runaway hit took the final slot rather than “The Subway.”

Meanwhile in the album of the year race, Justin Bieber earned his first nomination in the category since 2022 for Swag. (He’s got four nominations overall, including for best pop vocal album and best pop solo performance for “Daisies.” Rap was well represented as along with Kendrick, Clipse’s much-acclaimed Let God Sort Em Out got a nomination alongside Tyler, the Creator’s CHROMAKOPIA. Rounding out the album of the year category this year is one of the most pleasant surprises of the year with Leon Thomas’ breakthrough album MUTT.

Thomas, who also comes into the Grammys with six nominations, is a strong contender for best new artist, where he’s up against Addison Rae, Sombr, Lola Young, Olivia Dean, KATSEYE, The Marias and Alex Warren.

Despite the best new artist nod Warren received one of the bigger snubs of this year as his breakout single “Ordinary,” which ruled the charts for much of the summer, failed to get any nominations in the general and genre categories. Also a surprising omission in those categories is Gracie Abrams’ “That’s So True,” which was widely considered a contender.

Clipse got five nominations overall, including for rap performance, rap song and rap ablum, as did SZA; Tyler, the Creator; and critically lauded hardcore band Turnstile. Also nabbing five nominations was Doechii as “Anxiety” also earned nominations for best rap performance and best rap song, as well as best music video. She hopes to carry her Grammy momentum from last year, where she won best rap album and was nominated for best new artist.

Other than the recording artists, Jack Antonoff — who produced many songs off Lamar’s GNX and Carpenter’s Man’s Best Friend including “Luther” and “Manchild” — was one of the top nominees overall with seven, though he was snubbed for a producer of the year nod. Amy Allen, a writer on every song on Man’s Best Friend and a co-writer on “APT,” has a shot at a back-to-back win for songwriter of the year and earned four nominations.

“The Grammy Awards are our opportunity to honor the people who make this community so vibrant, and this year’s nominees remind us of the incredible talent that is driving music forward,” Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. said in a statement. “From emerging talent to influential icons, these nominees reflect today’s broad and diverse musical landscape, and I am excited to celebrate them in the coming weeks ahead and on music’s biggest night.”
