Gretchen Wilson Goes on ‘The Road’ With CBS Music Competition Show

CBS is adding to the crew that take to The Road in its forthcoming music competition show.

Grammy winner Gretchen Wilson has joined the series, which comes from creators Taylor Sheridan and Blake Shelton and follows several up-and-coming musical acts going on tour as the openers for headliner Keith Urban. The Road is slated to premiere on CBS in the fall.

Wilson will be the show’s “tour manager,” giving advice and guidance to the opening acts as they make their way through the competition. She’ll also perform herself.

“Stepping into the role of ‘tour manager’ for The Road has allowed me to take everything I’ve learned over all of my years of touring and pour it right back into these emerging musicians,” Wilson said in a statement. “Helping them sharpen their talents to capture the attention of these crowds across America, and guiding them through the real and raw grind of life on the road, has been a highlight of my career. Working with Keith Urban, Blake Shelton, Taylor Sheridan and the rest of the team and our incredible crew was absolutely amazing. It was an honor to be a part of this team, and I can’t wait for the world to watch.”

In The Road, a group of musicians perform at small and medium-sized venues as opening acts for Urban. The audiences at those shows will help determine who continues in the competition and who has to leave the tour bus.

Wilson is a 10-time Grammy nominee and won the award for best female country vocal performance in 2005 for her breakout single “Redneck Woman.” She has also won CMA, ACM, American Music and Billboard awards.

MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios and Shelton and Lee Metzger’s Lucky Horseshoe Productions are producing The Road. Sheridan (via his Bosque Ranch Productions), 101 Studios’ David Glasser, Shelton, Metzger and Urban executive produce.
