Guthrie Family Explains Why $1 Million Reward Is Only Now Being Offered Weeks After Nancy’s Disappearance

Savannah Guthrie has made another emotional plea for the return of her mother, Nancy Guthrie, now including a reward of up to $1 million for help in bringing her home.
“We need to know where she is. We need her to come home. For that reason, we are offering a family reward of up to $1 million for any information that leads to her recovery,” Guthrie said in an Instagram post on Tuesday. At the same time, Guthrie said she knows that her mother may no longer be alive and that her family needs closure after weeks of uncertainty around the missing person’s case.
“We also know that she may be lost. She may already be gone,” said the emotional Today co-host. “She may have already gone home to the Lord that she loves and is dancing in heaven with her mom and her dad, with her beloved brother, Pierce, and with our daddy.”
She urged anyone with information on her mother’s whereabouts to call 1-800-call-FBI (1-800-225-5324) and that any tips could be made anonymously. The offer of a reward by the Guthrie family aims to spark leads or tips from anyone who until now has been reluctant to step forward, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
It’s understood the Guthrie family had discussed the offer of their own reward from first day of the police investigation and have waited until now to go public with their offer to avoid overwhelming law enforcement personnel with field leads as they continue their active search. The Guthrie family, having coordinated closely with the FBI, is also offering a reward “up to” $1 million as more than one valid claim in helping find Nancy Guthrie could eventually be split. And the reward offer is not contingent on an eventual arrest or prosecution as the family seeks information leading to Nancy Guthrie’s recovery.
The Guthrie family is nearly a month into the search for their family matriarch after Nancy Guthrie was kidnapped in an apparent violent encounter and removed from her home in Tucson, Arizona, on Feb. 1. At 84 years old, Nancy Guthrie is in poor health and likely without life-sustaining medications, which explains daughter Savannah indicating she may already have died in captivity. Meanwhile, the Pima Country Sheriff’s Department and FBI agents continue the search for Nancy after her abduction.
The Guthrie family has also pledged $500,000 to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which supports missing person cases, especially around children, and families with few resources or sustained access to media coverage during active searches.
