‘Hostel’ TV Adaptation Starring Paul Giamatti Finds Home at Peacock

Peacock is offering a place to stay for a Hostel series project from filmmaker Eli Roth and star Paul Giamatti.

The NBCUniversal streamer will develop the project, which is based on Roth’s mid-2000s horror movies about an underground network of wealthy people who kidnap and torture young tourists staying in hostels. The show, which THR reported was in the works in 2024 (but without a home), comes from Fifth Season.

Oscar nominee and Emmy winner Giamatti, an avowed horror fan, is set to star in the show, though details of his role are being kept under wraps. The Hostel series project is described as a present-day take on the concept.

Roth, who wrote and directed 2005’s Hostel and 2007’s Hostel: Part II, is set to write, direct and executive produce the Peacock project. The films’ producers, Mike Fleiss and Chris Briggs, are also EPs. (A third Hostel film, made without Roth’s involvement, had a direct-to-video release in 2011.)

Giamatti starred in an episode of Black Mirror earlier this year and will next be seen in Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale and Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. Roth recently launched a production company called The Horror Section that will produce and distribute horror stories across a variety of media.

Variety first reported the project landing at Peacock.
