‘House of the Dragon,’ ‘Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Renewed at HBO

HBO will keep the Game of Thrones pipeline running for the next several years.
The premium outlet has ordered new seasons of GoT prequels House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms ahead of their 2026 premieres. House of the Dragon will get a fourth season, and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, based on George R.R. Martin’s Dunk and Egg novellas, will return for a second season.
Both shows will air in 2026, with A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms set to premiere Jan. 18 and House of the Dragon season three slated for the summer. Season two of Knight will follow in 2027, and season four of House of the Dragon is set for 2028.
“We are thrilled to be able to deliver new seasons of these two series for the next three years, for the legion of fans of the Game of Thrones universe,” said Francesca Orsi, executive vp HBO Programming and head of HBO drama series and films. “Together, House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms reveal just how expansive and richly imagined George R. R. Martin’s universe continues to be. In January, I think audiences will be delighted by the inspiring underdog tale of Dunk and Egg that George and Ira Parker have captured so beautifully. And this summer, House of the Dragon is set to ignite once again with some of its most epic battles yet.”
Ryan Condal and Martin are co-creators of House of the Dragon, with Condal serving as showrunner. They executive produce with Sara Hess, Melissa Bernstein, Kevin de la Noy, Vince Gerardis, David Hancock and Philippa Goslett.
Parker, a writer and co-EP on season one of House of the Dragon, co-created A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms with Martin and is the showrunner. The exec produce with Sarah Bradshaw, Owen Harris, Condal and Gerardis.
