Jack Antonoff and Hayley Williams to Headline Rolling Stone ‘Musicians on Musicians’ Event

Rolling Stone has revealed the marquee pairings for the publication’s upcoming Musicians on Musicians series. Set to take the stage live for the October 23 event at New York’s Beacon Theatre are Jack Antonoff and Hayley Williams and Role Model and María Zardoya of The Marías. James Austin Johnson of Saturday Night Live will serve as the night’s MC and moderator. Also slated is a performance by Antonoff’s band Bleachers.

The franchise, which launched in 2019 and last year featured Doechii, Brittany Howard, Busta Rhymes and GloRilla at Harlem’s Apollo Theatre, also hit the road in 2025, bringing insightful musical conversations to cities like Austin (Charley Crockett and Noeline Hoffman), New Orleans (Tank and The Bangas and David Shaw of The Revivalists) and Washington, D.C. (Big Freedia and Jake Wesley Rogers) in partnership with Sonesta International Hotels.

On Wednesday night, New York’s Shelburne Sonesta hosted Chelsea Cutler and Jeremy Zucker in New York for an intimate chat and performance. The pair have collaborated for over six years, after first meeting at a frat party in Colorado, where Zucker was performing. The two shared a musical bond through SoundCloud, where both had been posting — and admiring — each other’s music.

Since that fateful connection, Cutler and Zucker have released a trio of collaborative projects — Brent, Brent II and Brent III — on the heels of their first song together, “Better Off.”

“As soon as we wrote ‘Better Off,’ we were like, ‘Whoa, this is crazy,’” Zucker said. “Something special happened when we made music together.”

The Brent series, Cutler recalled, also evolved organically. Recorded in a cabin in her home state of Connecticut (Zucker, who recently released a full-length album titled Garden State, is a native of New Jersey), what was a single session turned into days of musical output. “We definitely never went into the creation of Brent thinking we’re gonna make a project,” she said. “We just had a really great time hanging out and making music. … We had no clue what was gonna happen.”

The mutual admiration during their talk was palpable. “My favorite thing about Jeremy’s solo music, and it’s coincidentally and conveniently what I also of about our collaborations, is that Jeremy is probably the most deliberate and intentional songwriter and producer that I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know and listen to,” Cutler said from the stage.

Added Zucker of Cutler’s latest release, If I Could Just Stop the Time: “It really reminded me of your early stuff — in such a heartbreaking and devastating way … that I really connected to. Your voice is amazing and what you write is amazing. And I could dig into it for hours, but I won’t.”

Previous Musicians on Musicians pairings in Rolling Stone’s print edition and online platforms have included Paul McCartney and Taylor Swift, Elton John and Lana Del Rey, Olivia Rodrigo and Alanis Morissette, Lorde and David Byrne, Pharrell and BTS’ RM and Zach Bryan and Bruce Springsteen, among others.
