James Marsden’s family life – meet star’s adorable children and glamorous partner

James Marsden is back on our screens as the actor stars in the latest entry of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise as Tom Wachowski. While in the film series, James’ character of Tom is happily married to vet Maddie, the actor’s real-life love life is a bit more complicated.

Current relationship

James is currently believed to be dating Dutch model Frederique Brons. The couple are keeping their relationship out of the spotlight, but they were first linked in October 2023 when the pair were seen sharing a kiss. The duo were also seen holding hands in November 2023.

James was previously in a relationship with British singer-songwriter Emma Deign, who is perhaps best known by her stage name, Edei.

Ex-wife

James has been married once, tying the knot to Mary Elizabeth ‘Lisa’ Linde back in 2000. The pair divorced in 2011, citing irreconcilable differences – and James opened up about the split to Men’s Health back in 2018.

He explained: “My life hasn’t been filled with sorrow and deep struggle. When the divorce happened, it was the first time I felt I lost my equilibrium… It was scary and sad and made me pull everything into focus. I needed to focus on what was important. So that’s who I am now because of that. I know regrets can be catalysts for good things.”

He continued: “It’s sad and heartbreaking. I was separating not only from my wife but also my kids and the bonds of home and family. Those are things you’re painfully reminded of every day. It’s like, ‘[Expletive], what lesson is this? What’s to come from this?'” 

Children

James and his ex-wife share two children, Mary James Marsden, 19, and Jack Holden Marsden, 23. James also shares an 11-year-old son, William, with his ex-girlfriend, Rose Costa. The trio all attended the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 premiere with him, with Jack posting a snap of his family on Instagram, writing: “The gang’s all here #sonicmovie2.”

Speaking of fatherhood, James said: “Of all my achievements in life, being a father is the one thing I’m most proud of. It is the most fulfilling. I’m always self-deprecating, but I don’t have a problem saying that I am a great dad.” 

While Jack has worked as a model, and now describes himself as a producer, musician and engineer on Instagram, James has revealed that his daughter is interested in acting, saying: “A little bit. My daughter has [interest], but my boys, not yet. Not so far. My daughter is…a very, very talented young lady, and so we’ll see. We’ll see. I wouldn’t discourage them for sure.”
