Jesse Metcalfe Regrets Skipping ‘Entourage’ Audition: “I Blew That One”

Jesse Metcalfe has revealed he was in the running for the lead role on HBO’s Entourage, though he now regrets blowing off the audition because he wasn’t impressed by the script.
“I had an audition for Entourage, and I read the pilot episode, and I was like, ‘This is stupid,’ and I didn’t go to the audition,” Metcalfe recently told People. “Obviously, I had no idea what I was talking about. That ended up being an iconic show that I absolutely love and definitely wish I was a part of.”
He continued, “I blew that one. Sometimes you gotta say no, but that was the wrong one.” Metcalfe added that the experience “taught me that I don’t know everything.”
He went on to note that the experience made him “absolutely” more “likely to audition” for roles, even when he’s not impressed by the script or believes that he’s not right for the role. “I’ve been auditioning for what it feels like is everything lately,” Metcalfe said.
As for Entourage, the John Tucker Must Die actor revealed that he would have auditioned “for Adrian Grenier’s role” of Vincent Chase on the HBO series, which ran for eight seasons, from 2004 until 2011. Many of the cast members also reprised their roles in the 2015 film of the same name.
The show was created by Doug Ellin and was loosely based on producer Mark Wahlberg’s early experiences in the entertainment industry. Entourage was critically acclaimed throughout its run and earned several awards, including six Emmys.
In addition to Grenier, the show also starred Kevin Connolly, Kevin Dillon, Jerry Ferrara and Jeremy Piven as Vince’s management team and close friends.
Despite regretting not going to his audition for Entourage, Metcalfe still found success when he was cast as John Rowland on the 2004 pilot episode of Desperate Housewives. Metcalfe’s character was hired by Carlos (Ricardo Chavira) and Gabrielle Solis (Eva Longoria) to take care of their lawn and garden, though he quickly began an affair with Gabrielle.
