Jiggly Caliente, the drag performer who appeared on two seasons of RuPaul’s Drag Race and who served as a judge on the Philippines version of the show, has died. She was 44.

Caliente, whose real name was Bianca Castro-Arabejo, died of complications stemming from a severe infection, her family announced in a statement to her Instagram page Sunday. The family had alerted fans to the health issue a few days earlier, revealing that Caliente would be stepping back from public appearances after requiring a leg amputation.

“A luminous presence in the worlds of entertainment and advocacy, Jiggly Caliente was celebrated for her infectious energy, fierce wit, and unwavering authenticity,” the statement said. “She touched countless lives through her artistry, activism, and the genuine connection she fostered with fans around the world.

“Her legacy is one of love, courage, and light,” it continued. “Though her physical presence is gone, the joy she shared and the space she helped create for so many will remain forever.”

Caliente appeared as a contestant in season four of RuPaul’s Drag Race, which was televised on Logo. Caliente placed eighth, but returned for season six of the spinoff series RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars in 2020.

Born in the Philippines before moving to New York City as a child, Caliente also had a recurring role on the Ryan Murphy FX drama series Pose as Veronica, and appeared on other TV shows like Broad City and Search Party. She also served as a judge on Drag Race Philippines.

Cliente, who came out as transgender in 2016, was also a vocal advocate for LGTBQ+ causes.
