John Wick Spinoff Movies That Could Come Next

The world of John Wick is growing. Across four entries, audiences have watched Keanu Reeves’ John Wick fire bullet after bullet, show off his martial arts skills, sword-fighting prowess, horse and motorcycle riding mastery, and emerge as arguably the coolest action hero of the 21st century. The franchise put Keanu Reeves back in the spotlight and positioned director Chad Stahelski, producer/director David Leitch, and writers Derek Kolstad and Shay Hatten as go-to genre filmmakers in Hollywood.
The John Wick films have also changed the language of modern action movies, with Leitch and Kelly McCormick’s 87North Productions utilizing that “Wickian” style for films including Nobody, Bullet Train, Violent Night, and The Fall Guy.
Although John Wick seemingly died in John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023), Reeves and Stahelski confirmed during April’s CinemaCon that John Wick: Chapter 5 is in the works, along with an animated prequel directed by Shannon Tindle, and a spin-off focused on Donnie Yen’s character Caine, set to be directed by Yen.
But the first of these spin-offs, aside from the Peacock streaming miniseries The Continental, is From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, which is set between the third and fourth chapters of John Wick.
No, the title doesn’t quite run off the tongue, but the film, directed by Len Wiseman and starring Ana de Armas in the lead role of an assassin with ties to John Wick, earned solid reviews and strong audience scores. But it underwhelmed at the box office with a $25 million opening, suggesting Ballerina is unlikely to be Lionsgate’s answer for further franchise expansion and it will need to look elsewhere.
As fans of the franchise know, the incredible world-building of the series, and the introduction of numerous characters, each possessing their own sense of a larger story before they were pulled into John Wick’s orbit, means there’s no end to possible spin-off projects or franchises within the franchise, so long as the quality remains consistent and each adds something unique to the world. With that in mind, here are four concepts that would be fascinating spin-offs “From the World of John Wick.”

From the World of John Wick: The Manager
Image Credit: Niko Tavernise John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019) introduced Sofia Al-Azwar (Halle Berry), an old friend of John Wick’s who serves as manager of the Continental Hotel in Casablanca. Sofia made an instant impression in the sequel with her two combat-trained Belgian Malinois, and the simple fact that it’s Halle Berry kicking ass. While her role in John Wick’s story is brief, yet memorable, there are details in what little backstory she’s given that would make for a compelling spin-off feature.
Namely, she has an unnamed daughter hidden in an unrevealed location that puts added stakes on her assistance of Wick. The outcome of her decision to help Wick find the Elder of the High Table is unrevealed, but a story that involves Sofia and her dogs racing around the globe and against the clock to save her daughter would be one worth seeing. And it’s about time Berry led an action franchise.

From the World of John Wick: Bowery King
One of the more interesting additions to the lore of John Wick is The Bowery King (Laurence Fishburne), who presides over The Soup Kitchen, a network of spies and intelligence agents masquerading as homeless.
The Bowery King operates independently from The High Table, though he offers them his services when necessary, and has created his own set of rules and culture for his underground operation. His intelligence operation abstains from the use of the internet or traceable cellular data, employing carrier pigeons, well-positioned agents, and antiquated, but effective forms of spy craft. Nothing is known about the Bowery King’s past, but his penchant for Shakespearean theatrics makes him a larger-than-life figure.
The fourth entry of the franchise saw The Bowery King expand his network to Paris, and that global expansion could serve as an interesting arc for the Bowery King in a spin-off film. And of all the supporting characters, learning about the Bowery King’s origins in — say 1970s or 1980s NYC — and how he managed to set up this huge intelligence network, has the potential to be a unique spy story without the gadgets and digital surveillance that have become so key to the genre.
A film that could utilize Fishburne’s talents and focus on the Bowery King’s efforts to expand The Soup Kitchen in the present, while also telling a prequel story of a young man taking on the entire intelligence community and earning the moniker of Bowery King, would allow for a different, though no less nail-biting, style of action in the franchise.

From the World of John Wick: The High Table
At the center of the John Wick series is the organization known as The High Table, a collective of twelve crime lords from around the world who count politicians, royalty, military, police forces, and highly skilled agents in their service. It also utilizes The Continental, the global hotel service for hitmen, to hire assassins to take out enemies and threats to The High Table.
Although the High Table serves as the primary antagonist of the franchise, it has remained a shadowy society mostly represented by agents, and their leader, The Elder (Said Taghmaoui), who Wick kills in Chapter 3. The names of those seated at the table and their location have yet to be revealed. But what has been revealed is that The High Table has existed long before the Roman Empire.
While it might prove to be too expensive and alienating to audiences for the franchise to showcase the formation of The High Table, it does feel as though there’s a lot of potential to explore an earlier age of The High Table.
Perhaps another animated entry, like the upcoming John Wick prequel, could be the answer. A film set in medieval Europe, pitting The High Table against The Round Table, could be a compelling story and familiar enough for audiences to latch onto. Arthurian legend recontextualized through the world of John Wick would be a fresh approach to both action and aesthetics. And who knows, maybe Keanu Reeves could voice an ancestor of John Wick, Ser Jon of Wyck.

From the World of John Wick: Mr. Nobody
Not to be confused with 87 North’s Bob Odenkirk-starring action franchise, Nobody, Mr. Nobody (Shamier Anderson), also known as The Tracker, is a mysterious backpack-clad assassin hired to kill John Wick in John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023). He also has a dog, a Belgian Malinois, like Sofia. Who knows, maybe there’s a shared history there. Maybe there’s a John Wick spin-off to be told about who is training all of these combat dogs.
Regardless, there’s very little information given about the appropriately dubbed Mr. Nobody, only that he will only work for high prices, which Anderson said, in his mind, was because he has a sick mother to take care of. While he initially targets Wick, he is an admirer, rooting for him during Wick’s duel with Caine. In some ways, Mr. Nobody feels like the truest successor to John Wick, a young assassin, who may be newer player in the game, with a great fondness for dogs, and an extensive knowledge about the rules of the High Table. Plus, Shamier Anderson has the goods to become a breakout star.
