Kanye West Surprise Drops New Album Through Short Film Posted on X

Kanye West surprise released his new album Bully on social media late Tuesday night, dropping the project via a 45-minute short film amid his spree of hateful posts on his X account.
The film depicts West’s son Saint West in a wrestling ring, taking on hoards of wrestlers by himself, armed with a toy mallet while the album plays in the background. West posted links for three different versions of the album, though as of Wednesday morning only one appears to be functioning.
Bully isn’t the first time in the past several years that the controversial rapper has used an unconventional method of releasing albums. Back in 2022, West released Donda 2 exclusively through a Stem Player that itself cost hundreds of dollars.
West’s latest album release comes as he’s continued to post hateful and antisemitic tweets earlier this week. He’s also sent out tweets disparaging some of his previous collaborators including Tyler, the Creator, Kendrick Lamar, while also insulting Jay-Z, Beyoncé and their children. Back in February, West bought a Super Bowl ad to plug his website, where, by the following Monday, the only item listed for sale was a T-shirt with a swastika on it.
Lyor Cohen, the former head of Def Jam who’s now the global head of music at YouTube, wrote an open letter to West last month calling out his behavior.
“I am deeply disappointed and troubled by your recent actions involving the use of Nazi symbols and antisemitic rhetoric,” Cohen wrote. “Your words and actions are not only offensive but triggering to all decent people who recognize the horrors of the Holocaust and the suffering of millions.”
