Katy Perry, Lauren Sánchez, and Gayle King Take an Epic Journey to Space and Return on Blue Origin Adventure

Pop star Katy Perry, Lauren Sánchez—fiancée of Jeff Bezos—and CBS Morning co-anchor Gayle King had an extraordinary experience on Monday as they ventured to the edge of space and back aboard a Blue Origin flight.
The spaceflight, organized by Amazon founder Bezos, featured an all-female crew of six, which included film producer Kerianne Flynn, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, and research scientist Amanda Nguyen. The New Shepard rocket launched from Blue Origin’s site in Van Horn, Texas, at 9:31 a.m. local time.
This remarkable expedition lasted approximately 10 minutes, reaching an altitude of 62 miles above the Kármán line and traveling at Mach 3—three times the speed of sound. Meanwhile, Bezos and a crowd of celebrities, including a visibly moved Oprah Winfrey, gathered at the launch pad, craning their necks to catch a glimpse of the flight soaring above.
Inside the spacecraft, audio captured the excitement of the six women as they cheered and shouted during their journey. “Look at the moon!” exclaimed one unidentified voice.
After the capsule separated from the rocket, the astronauts unbuckled themselves to experience a brief moment of weightlessness. The six women safely returned to Earth, landing under parachutes in the Texas desert at 9:42 a.m.
“Congratulations and welcome back to Earth,” Blue Origin mission control welcomed the crew. Once on solid ground, both Perry and King knelt to kiss the Earth before embracing friends and family.
Just prior to takeoff, Winfrey expressed her excitement for King during a live stream with interviewer Charissa Thompson, noting that King had conquered her fear of flying to embark on this journey.
“I think life is about continuing to grow into the best of yourself and the fullest expression of yourself, and I think that this is one of the most fullest expressions you can possibly have… I wish I had gone, you know. And I said, there’s only one time that going up for the first time. You know, there will be other trips, but there’s only one first time. So to be a pioneer, it’s great,” Winfrey remarked.
Kris Jenner also shared her reaction following the flight and its successful landing. “I don’t think you think you would be that emotional, but it’s incredible. It takes your breath away. I feel like I have all this adrenaline, and I’m just standing here,” she said during the Blue Origin livestream.
This mission marked Blue Origin’s 11th human flight and a total of 31 flights overall.
