KJ Apa Faces Battles as Jimmy Stewart in Trailer for Biopic Movie ‘Jimmy’

KJ Apa leads a look back at Hollywood legend Jimmy Stewart‘s wonderful life in the teaser trailer for the forthcoming biopic Jimmy.
Burns & Co. Productions released the first footage from director Aaron Burns’ feature that hits theaters Nov. 6, 2026. The cast includes Apa as Stewart, Jason Alexander as Louis B. Mayer, Max Casella as Frank Capra, Jen Lilley as Gloria Stewart, Christopher McDonald as Lionel Barrymore, and Sarah Drew as gossip columnist Hedda Hopper. Rob Riggle, Neal McDonough and Julian Works round out the cast.
Jimmy is set to focus on the life and work of Stewart, including his Oscar-winning performance in The Philadelphia Story, his stint in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and his career-defining role in It’s a Wonderful Life.
“Don’t I have the right to serve my country just like anyone else does?” Apa asks in the trailer. This leads Riggle to respond, “America can’t afford to lose Jimmy Stewart.”
Later in the footage, Apa says, “Someday, I’d like to be able to look at myself in the mirror and see a good man looking back at me.”
Burns helmed the film from a script by Justin Strawhand. The pair serve as producers alongside David Cook, Angela Galgani Sullivan and John Norton.
“My family and I are delighted and excited that KJ Apa has agreed to play my father in this film,” Kelly Stewart-Harcourt, an executive producer on Jimmy and Stewart’s daughter, said in a statement released when Apa’s casting was announced earlier this year. “In addition to his considerable acting skills, KJ’s enthusiasm for the project will only add to the energy and depth he will bring to the role.”
Apa is known for his starring role on the series Riverdale and for such features as The Map That Leads to You and The Hate U Give.
