Kristin Cavallari Caught Intruder Crawling on Her Floor While in Bed with Son Camden: ‘Your Instincts Just Kick in’
Kristin Cavallari is reliving one of her scariest moments.
The 37-year-old shared the terrifying story on the Tuesday, Dec. 17 episode of her Let’s Be Honest with Kristin Cavallari podcast.
Noting, “My kids still do not know [this] to this day,” Cavallari — who shares sons Camden, 12, and Jaxon, 10, and daughter Saylor, 9, with ex Jay Cutler — added that the event took place during a family trip to the Bahamas in 2020. The family had to stay in the location for a month amid pandemic restrictions.
The Laguna Beach alum said she had jewelry from her Uncommon James brand laid out in her closet when the house’s HVAC unit broke and they needed to call in workers to fix it.
“That night I had [my son] Cam in the bed with me. Cam and I were sleeping,” she recalled. “And I woke up to a man crawling on my bedroom floor.”
“I was so out of it because obviously I had just woken up,” she said. “And I go, ‘What the f— are you doing?’ And this man stands up, runs out the door, and, you guys, he had a ski mask on, full black arms, black pants, the full thing. And I went ‘oh, f—.’”
Cavallari added, “Because Cam was in the bed with me, I didn’t yell. I didn’t scream. You think in those moments that that’s what you’d do, but your instincts just kick in. I honestly felt like I was in Mission Impossible.”
After rushing to get her now-ex-husband Cutler, Cavallari said the reality of the situation began to sink in.
“Once I woke Jay up, then I got really nervous,” she admitted. “Then I start [to get] like, really scared. I started shaking, and I was able to process then what just happened. But until that point, I was not scared. I was really calm. You just are running off of instinct.”
The Hills alum added that she’s chosen not to share the story with her kids for fear it will deeply impact them.
“That’s just one that I think would really scare them,” she said. “Long story short, he took all of the cash that we had in a backpack. We ended up getting it back. We found out who it was. It was the HVAC guy.”
Calling the ordeal “one of the scariest things that I went through,” Cavallari said she’s happy to shoulder the knowledge of what happened to protect her kids.
“I will not tell them, probably, until they’re adults,” she said. “Because I just think some things kids do not need to know. And scary stuff like that, I will take that one.”
