Kyle Chandler Joins Ben Affleck, Matt Damon in Netflix Crime Thriller ‘RIP’ (Exclusive)
Kyle Chandler will star opposite Ben Affleck and Matt Damon in RIP, a crime thriller Joe Carnahan is directing for Netflix.
Chandler joins a call sheet that, on top of Affleck and Damon, includes Sasha Calle (The Flash), Nestor Carbonell (Shogun), Catalina Sandino Moreno (From), and singer-turned-actress Teyana Taylor.
Against the backdrop of an investigation into the murder of a fellow officer, the crime thriller sees a team of Miami cops discovering millions in cash in a derelict stash house. As trust among the team begins to fray, outside forces learn about the millions at the house. This pressure put the cops in an impossible situation that leads to moral dilemmas and deadly confrontations.
Chandler is playing a DEA agent.
RIP is being produced by Artists Equity, the artist-led studio founded by Affleck and Damon. The duo are producing along with Luciana Damon and Dani Bernfeld for Artists Equity. Michael Joe and Kevin Halloran are exec producing for Artists Equity.
Netflix declined to comment.
Chandler has made headlines in recent weeks with his casting as classic DC superhero Hal Jordan in HBO and DC Studios’ high-profile series Lanterns. The show, which this week cast Aaron Pierre as superhero John Stewart, is due to begin production in the UK at the top of 2025. The actor will squeeze in RIP before Lanterns, as the Netflix feature begins production later this month in Miami and Los Angeles.
Chandler became a name thanks to his Emmy-winning turn as Coach Eric Taylor in the beloved Friday Night Lights television series that aired on NBC from 2006 to 2011. He returned to series work with the Netflix thriller Bloodline, which earned him two Emmy nominations. In recent years, he has popped up in movies big and small, among them Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong, as well as Damien Chazelle’s Neil Armstrong biopic First Man.
The actor most recently shot indie feature Anniversary opposite Diane Lane, Zoey Deutch and Phoebe Dynevor for Polish director Jan Komasa. He also recently filmed the Netflix feature Back in Action opposite Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz.
Chandler is repped by Gersh and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
