Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” Is the Longest-Running No. 1 in Billboard History

Mariah Carey‘s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” is officially the longest-running number one single in Hot 100 history, Billboard confirmed Monday, as Carey’s Christmas classic has now topped the chart for 20 weeks all time.
“All I Want For Christmas Is You” now stands alone for the record after tying Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” and Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” last week, and it’s likely that the song will pad its lead further both during this holiday season and in the years ahead.
“All I Want For Christmas Is You” has become a constant presence in the holiday season since it first released in 1994, and it finally topped the Hot 100 for the first time in 2019 amid the streaming era, where a seasonal streaming bump has helped consistently push it back up the charts. That initial number one in 2019 set the record for longest-ever climb atop the Hot 100.
The song is one of eight Christmas songs lining the Hot 100 this week, as Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” which also managed to top the charts back in 2023, came in at No. 2 this week. Wham! holds the number three spot with “Last Christmas,” while Bobby Helms’ “Jingle Bell Rock” came in fourth and Ariana Grande’s “Santa Tell Me” rounded out the top five.
Carey acknowledged the milestone on social media Monday with a joke, subtweeting her own 2019 post of her passing a torch to Lil Nas X when “Old Town Road” surpassed her Boyz II Men collaboration “One Sweet Day” with a new picture of her holding a torch on her own.
While Carey is the queen of Christmas, she won’t go back into hibernation when the holiday season is over. She’s set to be honored as the MusiCares Person of the Year at the non-profit’s annual gala during Grammy Week on January 30, 2026 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
