Discover Caitlin Clark’s Charming 6’5″ College Boyfriend: A Look at Their Relationship

WNBA champion Caitlin Clark found her biggest supporter in April 2023 when she began dating former basketball player Connor McCaffery. The 23-year-old Indiana Fever star kept her relationship status private for four months before going Instagram official with Connor, 26, in August. She shared a photo of the two cuddling on a boat, captioning it: “Best end to summer.”
Caitlin and Connor first crossed paths at the University of Iowa, where they both played for the Hawkeyes’ basketball teams. The couple is not shy about showcasing their affection on social media, frequently sharing sweet tributes to one another during special moments. Here’s a closer look at Caitlin’s boyfriend, Connor.
Connor played basketball for the Hawkeyes from 2017 to 2023, earning recognition with an impressive array of accolades. He was named a five-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, a three-time NABC Honors Court member, a two-time Academic All-District First Team selection, a two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, and an NABC Honors Court honoree, as highlighted by Hawkeye Sports.
In May 2023, Connor graduated with bachelor’s degrees in finance and political science and soon after secured a position as a team assistant for the NBA’s Indiana Pacers. In September 2024, he took on the role of assistant coach for the men’s basketball team at Butler University. “Following a high-level playing career, Connor has had the opportunity to both contribute and learn alongside one of the best staffs in the NBA,” Butler head coach Thad Matta stated. “Those experiences will be very valuable to our staff. He comes from a basketball family that I know well, and I’m excited for the impact he will have on our program both immediately and in the future.” Caitlin expressed her happiness for Connor’s new job, posting on Instagram, “Yayyy!!! So happy for you,” and shared with Sportscast Media, “I’m super excited for him… He worked super hard for that.”
Connor is the son of Fran McCaffery, who served as the head basketball coach at the University of Iowa for 14 years. Before his graduation, Connor paid tribute to his father on Instagram, stating, “To my dad – playing for you has been my dream since day 1. It exceeded expectations in every way possible.” In mid-March 2025, Fran left the Hawkeyes to become the head coach at the University of Pennsylvania.
As Connor and Caitlin approach their second anniversary, they reflect on their time together. Celebrating one year on April 24, 2024, Connor shared a heartfelt message: “One year with the best, doing life with you has been easy, and you never cease to amaze me… can’t wait to watch you live out your dreams in person, love you.” Caitlin reciprocated with her own post, saying, “One year of the best memories with my favorite person, you make every day better and I can’t wait for many more adventures together… love you.” On Caitlin’s 23rd birthday in January 2025, Connor again expressed his love, writing on Instagram: “Happy 23rd CC (finally we’re celebrating together this year)! You have an incredible ability to inspire and lift up those around you, and I am lucky to learn from you every day. Thank you for always being you. I love you.”
In October 2024, just five months after Caitlin made her professional WNBA debut, she and Connor made their red carpet debut at the Golden Gala fundraiser, supporting the Indiana Pacers Foundation.
