Meet the Real-Life Loves of the Nonnas Cast (Including the Couple Who Met in Elementary School!)
Nonnas tells the heartfelt story of a man giving up his day job to start a restaurant run by a group of Italian grandmothers.
The Netflix movie, which premiered on May 9, stars Vince Vaughn as Joe Scaravella, a former MTA employee who’s grieving the loss of his mom and grandmother. In a way to remember them, he quits his job and decides to open a restaurant called Enoteca Maria, an Italian restaurant in Staten Island with four “nonnas” in the kitchen.
The grandmothers — Gia (Susan Sarandon), Roberta (Lorraine Bracco), Antonella (Brenda Vaccaro) and Teresa (Talia Shire) — all hail from different regions and occasionally clash over their different backgrounds.
In the film, which is based off a true story, Joe is also reunited with an old flame Olivia (Linda Cardellini), his longtime friend Bruno (Joe Manganiello) and Bruno’s wife, Stella (Drea de Matteo).
While Vaughn’s character is trying to figure out his personal life, in reality, he’s been married to Kyla Weber since 2010. Although Manganiello and de Matteo play husband and wife in the movie, off-screen, they’re both in serious relationships.

Vince Vaughn and Kyla Weber
Vaughn, who plays the lead character Joe Scaravella, found love with his wife Weber.
The Wedding Crashers actor met the Canadian real estate agent through mutual friends at a 2008 wedding, according to Vogue. While Vaughn initially said he was “nervous” to date Weber, they hit it off and got married on Jan. 9, 2010, outside his hometown of Chicago.
Vaughn and Weber started their family later that same year and welcomed daughter Locklyn Kyla in December 2010. They’re also parents to son Vernon Lindsay, born in August 2013.
Weber frequently shows her support at red carpet events with her husband.
“I met the best girl in the world,” Vaughn said during a 2011 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “It gives you such a great purpose in your life.”

Linda Cardellini and Steven Rodriguez
Cardellini, who plays Olivia, fell in love with her childhood crush, Steven Rodriguez.
When Cardellini was in elementary school, she started having feelings towards Rodriguez. She told PEOPLE in 2013, “He was the new kid at my school. He could do amazing bike tricks and I was impressed. Not afraid to say it.”
When the Dead to Me actress and the makeup artist reconnected in 2010, it felt “very meant to be” for Cardellini.
“We’ve been friends for years and years and it was not even three years that we got together and realized that we should’ve been doing that all along,” she told PEOPLE. “It didn’t take long to figure out we were amazing friends and we could probably be great partners.”
Cardellini and Rodriguez welcomed their daughter Lilah-Rose in February 2012 and got engaged the following year.
Rodriguez attends red carpets with Cardellini and even does her makeup.

Joe Manganiello and Caitlin O’Connor
Manganiello, who plays Bruno, started dating Caitlin O’Connor shortly after his divorce from Sofía Vergara in 2023.
A source told PEOPLE in September 2023 that Manganiello and O’Connor began “casually seeing” each other after meeting at an afterparty for HBO’s Winning Time. They confirmed their romance four months later when they made their red carpet debut.
Before the Magic Mike actor dated the TV host, he was married to Vergara for seven years. They announced their divorce in a joint statement in July 2023.

Lorraine Bracco
Bracco is single, but on the lookout for her next partner.
“I’m single, and I’m sure someone will arrive,” she told AARP in April 2025. “I believe in love. What do I look for in a man? A sense of humor is extremely important. And I like a guy who’s sure of himself. I’m sure of myself, so I want him to be rock steady.”
The Sopranos actress has previously been in three long-term relationships. She was married to French hair salon owner Daniel Guerard from 1979 to 1982. They share daughter Margaux Guerard.
Following her divorce, she dated actor Harvey Keitel for 11 years from 1982 to 1993. They welcomed daughter Stella Keitel in 1985.
Bracco was then married to her A Talent for the Game costar Edward James Olmos from 1994 to 2002.

Susan Sarandon
Sarandon, who plays Gia, is single and “open to love.”
The Thelma & Louise actress was married to actor Chris Sarandon from 1967 to 1979 and famously kept his last name. She told The Times in November 2024 that she kept the surname because Chris was “a very kind man and he kept me alive.”
Sarandon then dated Italian director Franco Amurri from 1984 to 1988, welcoming daughter Eva Amurri in 1985. Susan later dated Tim Robbins from 1988 to 2009 and had sons John “Jack” Henry (born 1989) and Miles Robbins (born 1992).
In June 2024, Sarandon told Entertainment Tonight that she wants “an adventurer.”
“I’d love to, you know, [find] anybody that’s still curious and passionate, you know?” she added.

Brenda Vaccaro
Vaccaro, who plays Antonella, appears to be single.
The And Just Like That… actress previously married to Guy Hector in 1986, but she confirmed to CBS News that they were separated in 2021.
“I feel as life changes and you get older there are two things you really have to accept: One is loss, and the other is changes,” she told the magazine. “I mean, you lose a dog, you lose a mother, you lose things. It’s a loss. And the same with changes. All of a sudden, your arm is killing you, you know, arthritis, or you need a hip replacement. And these things have to be accepted with grace.”
Vaccaro has also previously been married to husbands Martin Fried, William Bishop and Charles Cannizzaro.
She was also in a relationship with her Summertree costar Michael Douglas for seven years in the 1970s.

Talia Shire
Shire, who plays Teresa, has not publicly dated anyone since the death of her husband, Jack Schwartzman.
The Godfather actress, whose brother is filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, married the film producer in 1980. Schwartzman died after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 1994. Shire and Schwartzman had sons Jason (born 1980) and Robert (born 1982).
Prior to Schwartzman, she was married to composer David Shire from 1970 to 1980, and they share son Matthew (born 1975).

Drea de Matteo and Robby Staebler
De Matteo, who plays Stella, has found love with Robby Staebler.
The Sopranos actress wished the drummer a happy birthday in March 2025 by posting a video montage of their favorite moments together and writing in the caption, “My Ride or Die till we can’t Ride or Die anymore 👫✨.”
Prior to her relationship with Staebler, Matteo was engaged to ex Shooter Jennings. The exes share daughter Alabama (born 2007) and son Waylon (born 2011). She later moved on with Whitesnake bass player Michael Devin, getting engaged in 2015.
