Megan Thee Stallion Reveals Struggles After Mom’s Death in Documentary Trailer: “I Forgot Who I Was”
Megan Thee Stallion looks back at her mom’s role in the origins of her career and how she struggled after her mom died in the trailer for her upcoming documentary In Her Words, streaming on Amazon’s Prime Video on Oct. 31.
The trailer opens with Megan telling the camera, over video of her performing, that she’s going to cancel her shows.
“I’m not having fun right now, and I don’t want to do it,” she says. “And I feel like how could I be Megan Thee Stallion, and I’m not having fun.”
The trailer then flashes back to an animated look at Megan growing up and her bond with her mother.
“I wouldn’t be here without my mom,” she says. “My mom was like a gangsta rapper. I was like, ‘When I get older I really want to be like her.’”
But when her mom died in 2019, after Megan had launched her career, she was “in shambles,” as the “Savage” rapper says,
“I think I really forgot who I was. And when life started getting crazy, I didn’t have her,” she recalls.
Megan opens up about struggling in the wake of her mom’s death explaining that she experienced “backlash,” being shot by Tory Lanez and “betrayal.”
“I had really had like a real breakdown,” she’s shown saying as she hugs someone while crying.
She explains that Megan Thee Stallion is trying to protect her true self of Megan Pete and shares that she wants people to understand her emotions.
“I want people to understand how this is affecting me,” she says over footage of her crying. “I want people to see how I feel.”
The trailer ends triumphantly, with fans sharing how much they love her and Megan saying, “I’ve been going through shit, but I’ve been getting through shit.”
