MGM+ Renews ‘Billy the Kid’ For Third and Final Season
The Kid is riding out for one last time.
MGM+ has renewed Michael Hirst‘s Western period drama Billy the Kid for an eight-episode third and final season.
The renewal comes just over three months after the end of season two. The first season of Billy the Kid debuted on MGM+, then called Epix, in April, 2022.
The logline for season three reads: “The Lincoln County War may be officially over, but both Billy the Kid and Sheriff Pat Garrett have important issues to resolve — there is a reckoning to come. Billy is still at large, and Garrett is out to capture him, dead or alive. And with a bounty on his head, Billy has the opportunity to quit New Mexico altogether and pursue a future with Dulcinea, the love of his life.”
The series stars The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes star Tom Blyth as the titular Billy the Kid, aka William H. Bonney, and deals with famed outlaw’s rise from his humble Irish roots to his early days as a cowboy and gunslinger in the American frontier to his pivotal role in the Lincoln County War and beyond. The cast also includes Alex Roe as Pat Garrett, Daniel Webber as Jesse Evans and Nuria Vega as Dulcinea del Tobosco.
Billy the Kid was created by Hirst, a prolific writer-producer who created Showtime’s The Tudors, the Vikings series for History and its Netflix spinoff Vikings: Valhalla, and also wrote Shekhar Kapur’s critically acclaimed historical features Elizabeth and Elizabeth: The Golden Age.
