Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones Share Playful Banter During Their Time Apart

Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones are among Hollywood’s most enduring couples, and for good reason. After nearly 25 years of marriage, they remain deeply in love and are known for their playful banter on social media. In their latest exchange, Michael, 80, shared a photo from his nature adventures, captioned: “Tree Hugging Saturday! What’s everyone up to this weekend? Wishing you all a great weekend!” Fans quickly filled the comments, and Catherine, 55, chimed in with a cheeky remark: “Spectacular. The tree is nice, too.”

Catherine and Michael have been busier than ever as they navigate her hectic schedule for the upcoming revenge thriller series, Kill Jackie. Based on Nick Harkaway’s bestselling novel, The Price You Pay, Catherine is not only the lead actress but also an executive producer. Production officially began in March, with the cast and crew traveling to locations such as Bilbao, Lisbon, London, and Swansea for the project.

It’s currently unclear if Michael is accompanying Catherine on her travels. Given their decision to live apart while she filmed season two of Wednesday in Ireland, it’s possible they are giving long-distance a try as they plan their next reunion.

As one of Hollywood’s most stable couples, Catherine and Michael are frequently asked about the secret to their lasting marriage. In 2021, Catherine shared that although they have experienced their “ups and downs,” the “constant is love and respect.”

“We’ve never, ever lost our sense of humor, and we enjoy each other’s company,” she explained. “My husband and I spend a lot of time together because, unlike many couples, we’ve never had a consistent 9-to-5 job. We’re either on or we’re off. I’m really working 16 hours a day, or I’m not. He’s doing the same, or not. So we’ve had significant amounts of time where we’ve just been us. We lived on the island of Bermuda for 12 years, raising our kids. We respect each other’s space, and our humor has endured.”

Michael and Catherine’s love story began at the Deauville Film Festival in 1998. Captivated by the Mask of Zorro star, Michael approached her while she was sitting at the bar and confidently declared, “You know, I’m going to be the father of your children.” While Catherine was initially unimpressed, she was charmed when Michael sent roses to the set of her next film. After their first date, they quickly fell for each other.

The following year, Michael proposed at his Aspen home on New Year’s Eve, and by 2000, they exchanged vows at the iconic Plaza Hotel in New York City. Their lavish wedding, estimated to have cost $1.5 million, featured Catherine in a stunning Christian Lacroix gown, complete with a dramatic train and a veil that reportedly cost $140,000.

The couple shares two children: their son, Dylan Michael, was born just three months before their wedding, and their daughter, Carys Zeta, arrived in April 2003. Catherine is also a loving stepmother to Cameron Douglas, whom Michael had with his ex-wife, Diandra Luker, in 1978.
