Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino’s Memoir to Be Adapted Into ITV America Documentary (Exclusive)

If you like lengthy, pun-filled book titles, then Jersey Shore star Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino has the memoir for you. And soon, ITV America will have the documentary-film adaptation of Reality Check: Making the Best of the Situation — How I Overcame Addiction, Loss, and Prison.

The prison part covers the eight months Sorrentino served for tax fraud.

Sorrentino, the “GTL” (gym, tan, laundry) guy, is celebrating 10 years sober — Mike’s still-ongoing Jersey Shore: Family Vacation days are nothing like his Jersey Shore-proper days. Those included “years of reckless partying masked a drug addiction that would spiral into a half-million-dollar habit fueled by cocaine, oxycodone and a potpourri of pills,” as ITV America summed it up.

Reality Check: Making the Best of the Situation — How I Overcame Addiction, Loss, and Prison was named 2023’s “Nonfiction Book of the Year” by the Outstanding Creator Awards. The book “has amassed revenues exceeding seven figures,” Sorrentino’s PR wants you to know.

ITV America is the production house behind Peacock’s Love Island USA and Netflix’s Queer Eye.

“Sorrentino is ready to come clean in a revealing, no-holds-barred documentary,” ITV America says; the documentary is timed to the opening of the Sorrentino family’s first Archangel Rehabilitation Center. (Sorrentino was cited among the “2025 People to Watch in Healthcare” by NJ Biz.)

Sorrentino says his addiction grew out of a casual use of inventory (pills) while dealing drugs. The ITV America press release specifies that it was a “lucrative” business for Sorrentino.

“I am beyond excited to partner with ITV America to bring the pages of my autobiography to life on screen,” Sorrentino said. “This project is more than just my story; it’s a raw, unfiltered journey through addiction, fame and redemption. As we open the doors to my treatment facilities, The Archangel Centers, I hope this documentary inspires others to believe that no matter how far you fall, the comeback is always greater than the setback.”

Sorrentino’s wife Lauren, his Jersey Shore castmates, “and even network and production executives” will be part of the doc, as will Mike’s “former drug dealer and party pals.”

“Like Mike, I got my start at MTV during its heyday and know the real stories of what went on behind the scenes of the shows — often as entertaining as what was being filmed,” ITV America CEO David George said. “When we first talked about partnering, I was struck by Mike’s candor and willingness to talk about it all… there’s a lot to tell and offering it through his point of view is a rare opportunity.”

Sorrentino, George, Adam Sher, Jordana Hochman and George McTeague will executive produce.
