MomTok on Top: ‘The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’ Earns First Emmy Nomination

Never underestimate the power of MomTok.

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, Hulu’s breakout reality series centered around a group of Mormon mom influencers, picked up its first Emmy nomination Tuesday.

The show earned a nod in the outstanding unstructured reality program category, nominated alongside the likes of Netflix’s America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, Love on the Spectrum (also hailing from Netflix), MTV’s RuPaul’s Drag Race: Untucked and FX’s Welcome to Wrexham

The news of Mormon Wives’ first-ever Emmy nom comes at quite a peak in interest for the series. The main selling point of the show ignited after Taylor Frankie Paul exposed what she called a “soft swinging” scandal involving herself and other MomTok members (including her co-star, Miranda McWhorter) that went viral online.

The show follows the lives of #MomTok members Paul, Demi Engemann, Jen Affleck, Jessi Ngatikaura, Layla Ngatikaura, Mayci Neeley, Mikayla Matthews, Whitney Leavitt and McWhorter as they navigate their lives as mom-influencers and the conflict that arises within their group.

Hulu shared the news of the nom in an Instagram post, where the women of Mormon Wives celebrated the accomplishment in the comments section. “Still in shock! We have the best team, crew, talent, network – everything,” Ngatikaura wrote, while Taylor added, “So damn proud of everyone!!!!”

Following a successful sophomore season, Mormon Wives earned its first reunion that debuted on Hulu at the top of this month, hosted by The Bachelor alum Nick Viall. Plus, during the special episode, it was announced that Jen Affleck and Whitney Leavitt have joined the cast of Dancing with the Stars’ forthcoming fall season.

For the past two years, Welcome to Wrexham has won the Emmy in the outstanding unstructured reality program category. The Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds-led show picked up a total of three noms this year, including nods for reality program sound mixing and picture editing for an unstructured reality program.

After wrapping its second season in mid-May, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed a wave of 10 additional episodes will hit the streamer later this year.
